Five people die in a Spencer Montana crash near U.S. Highway 91 including Weldon Payne 41 and Reed Payne 14 from Dillon. Donald J Smith Dillon City Attorney and his wife Lou 33 and infant Debra also perished. The wreckage found after a three day search by 46 planes near Pleasant Valley Ridge. Funeral services held in Dillon with burial at Mountain View Cemetery.

A contribution for the National Founders Fund was collected by the Mat Bank girls Glenn a Dawn Williamson and Bette Peterson. Lynette Pugmire and Lana Rich entertained with a musical and Bette Peterson performed a piano solo. The meeting was led by President Dayle Mattson with opening prayer by Junior Pugmire and benediction by President Burdette Pugmire. Popcorn balls made by the Girls Club were served at the close.
