In a special election held last Saturday the two-district Bear Lake County school reorganization proposal failed. Voters favored District 32 on the west side while Montpelier east side District 31 passed, but outlying communities rejected it. both districts needed approval. Unofficial returns noted.
The family of Mrs. Emily M. Rich will host an Open House on Sunday July 3 to celebrate her 80th birthday. Friends and relatives are invited to the home of Clarence M. Rich from 3 30 to 6 30 p m. The family requests no gifts.
The Lark Class of the second ward held a Thursday afternoon party at Mrs. Fredrick Parker's home. Girls performed poems and songs, described their class work, then played games and enjoyed porch refreshments with attendees including Mrs. Amy Athany and others.
Mildred and Alaire Hart entertained their parents and siblings at a Bloomington reunion on June 25 and 26. George S. Young, son of the late Apostle Brigham Young Jr., and Martha Rigby Young hosted with twelve of their thirteen children present, plus 59 attendees including 37 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Idaho Fish and Game announces free public access to Henrys Lake this summer after completing a public access road to a southeast lake campground. Director T B Murray notes most shoreline is privately owned and urges responsible use. 40 acres of state land with 1630 feet of shore frontage are now under wildlife rights with signs to mark boundaries.
Montpelier residents and visitors are listed with several travels births and gatherings. A baby boy weighing 7 pounds 6 ounces was born June 21 at Bear Lake hospital to Mr and Mrs Marlin Parker. Multiple trips include Logan Salt Lake Ogden and Yellowstone Park with families and guests noted. Funeral services for Mrs C A Schoemaker were held in Ogden with attendees from Paris and Montpelier.
The Annual Bear Lake Valley Women's Camp will be held at Fish Haven Resort on July 14 and 15 under local committee supervision led by Mira John Stephena with Miss Marion Hepworth. Speakers include Dean E J Idding from the University of Idaho and Dr Royal Garff from the University of Utah among others. Overnight attendees should call to reserve lodging.
Ray McIlwee of the McIlwee Idaho Phosphate Company reports stripping began last Friday at the mine in Paris Canyon. Morrison Knudsen Construction Co. handles the work and phosphate will be crushed at the mine site once surface soil is removed. Stripping will take several weeks.
Multiple 4-H clubs in Paris Bloomington and Ovid reported their June gatherings. Members hemmed towels and began bias taped aprons while others learned stove cleaning skills and table setting demos. Refreshments and roasts framed the sessions with several new members welcomed.

The Bear Lake Rangers announce a free rodeo in Paria on Monday July 4 starting at 2 p.m. Events include a quarter mile race calf roping novelty races wild cow milking bronco riding and a one mile relay race. Prizes awarded for the quarter mile and relay. Refreshments on grounds. rodeo is free to the public with no liability for accidents or loss of property.
Arnell Family Reunion at St Charles Amusement Hall gathered 160 relatives from Idaho Utah Wyoming and California for a noon meal business meeting games and an evening program featuring solos dances readings and musical numbers by Arnell family members.
Descendants of Henry Rogers held their third annual reunion on June 26 at Ross park in Pocatello. A 67-member picnic lunch occurred at 2, followed by an evening program at the YWCA with local Rogers family members and musical numbers, then refreshments.
In Laketown Utah the Laketown Ward Sacrament Meeting conducted by Bishop Amos Robinson featured opening and closing songs, multiple speakers including Cyril S. Budge and Emil Grandy, solos by Roy Piggott and Elmer Walsstrom, and home missionary talks by Evan Morgan and Storey Austin. A closing benediction was given by Lawrence D. Lamborn. An admonition states that people who profit by their mistakes will find they have made no mistakes.
Seventy two Paris Lions Club members and guests enjoyed the annual club picnic at Paris park. District Governor Sherman Lowe installed officers including Glen Grimmett as president and Duane Hansen as secretary and treasurer. New members were welcomed with readings, solos, and jokes.
Idaho remains near the bottom of per capita auto fatalities among the 48 states, urged to drive carefully over the Independence Day weekend. R G Cole of the Idaho State Automobile Association cites 38 deaths by June 15, down from 77 a year earlier, and lists six safety rules for motorists. Harold Shepherd, former Duke University Dean of Law, visits family in Boise before a move to Stanford.
Glen Grimmett and Ralph Roghaar were business visitors in Salt Lake Tuesday and Wednesday. Outing details for 2nd Ward Relief Society Mother's and Daughter's event at Paria Park July 12. Ezra Rosen of Los Angeles visited his mother Rose Rosen for a week with relatives. Reed Tueller and family and Bear Lake relatives visited the Tueller home. Henry Lewellen returned from ten months in Tripoli with the U S Army of Occupation and plans to return after furlough. Dorothy Tueller hosted a bridge club with Inez Tunks high scorer. Various local visitors included Arch Tueller, John Ballantyne, Walter Jaussi, Ezra Belnap, D C Rich and others. Bear Lake Dairymen Coop hosted a picnic at Paris Park. Russell Price of Ogden visited Heber Price. Lloyd Hansen family and Verlene Hansen assisted at home in Salt Lake City. Dean Wilcox and family visited Paris after Salt Lake stay. Robbie Wilcox returned to Paria from Salt Lake with his father.
