Bear Lake Rodeo Opens in Montpelier With Parade

The 3 day Bear Lake Rodeo opens Thursday in Montpelier with a 1 pm parade featuring 200 mounted riders led by Ellis Straw. Rodeo events run daily from 2 pm with prize money totaling 1500 over three days plus championship prizes. A carnival, dances, animal shows, and a Dodge car drawing Saturday also accompany the Lions club sponsored event for the county hospital.

Funeral Services Held for Former Laketown Lady

Funeral services for Zettle May Nebeker Kears, longtime Laketown resident, were held June 18 at the Laketown ward chapel. Bishop Amos B. Robinson presided. floral tributes highlighted lilac time. Speakers praised her gospel faith, maternal generosity, and love of children and flowers.

Montpelier School Gym Gets Federal Advance Funds

Washington D C The Federal Works agency announced advances of funds to three Idaho communities to prepare drawings and specifications for public works projects. One advance of 129200 plus 4750 was to Independent School District class A No 1 for a Montpelier gymnasium addition with repayment after work begins.

Field Day at Lakota Resort Highlights Softball Contests

A Saturday Field Day at Lakota Resort featured two softball games amid a light drizzle. The west end girls team Liberty Sharon Lanark and Ovid defeated the east end girls by about 20 runs to claim stake champions. In the exhibition, Liberty beat Ovid 14 to 3 after trimmings and errors. Ovid managed 3 runs, 7 hits, 6 errors.

Northern Utah and southern Idaho await Logan for Cache County’s Centennial honoring the 100th anniversary of the Mormon pioneers arrival. A parade on July 3 and 4 features many city floats and high school bands, plus horse racing, a Mexican fiesta, a pageant The Desert Blossomed and a county fair grounds horse show with cash purses and a calf scramble for 4 H clubs. Apostle Ezra T Benson will speak at the Pioneer and Patriotic meeting in Logan tabernacle on July 4.

Norma Price Married at Beautiful Home Wedding

Miss Norma Price wed Gale A Hansen at the bride's home in Paris in a double ring ceremony. Attended by family and friends, the event featured pink decor, a pink white canopy, and Bishop O H Grimmett officiating before a noon ceremony. The couple plans a honeymoon in Idaho Montana and Wyoming and will reside in Logan Utah.

St Charles Couple Weds in Home Ceremony

A St Charles community wedding took place June 20 at 7 p m in the home of Mr and Mrs Kurt Anderson. Rex E Arnell and Mildred Anderson were married in a double ring ceremony conducted by President Burdette Pugmire. A reception followed with a large dance by Irwin's orchestra and many household gifts for the couple.

Ronald Bird Weds Boise Girl in Moscow LDS Institute

Ronald Bird and Miss Virginia McAbee were married May 20 at the LDS Institute in Moscow. The Boise native, a Boise High and Seattle College of Nursing graduate, works for Dr. Arthur E. Jones. Bird, a University of Idaho alumnus, Navy veteran, and Sigma Alpha Epsilon member, will pursue his MS degree. They plan a Boise residence after a Portland Seattle honeymoon.

Wayne Collings Receives Degree From Chicago University

Wayne R. Collings son of Mr and Mrs Collings of Paris received a Bachelor of Library Science from the Graduate Library School of the University of Chicago at the spring convocation on Friday June 13. Mrs Almira Stauffer and Miss Reita Collings attended the graduation and spent the week with Wayne and his wife in Chicago. The family then traveled to Onega Kansas and later Columbia Missouri where Wayne will join the University of Missouri library and his wife will serve as librarian at Christian College.

Arnell Reunion Draws 162 At St Charles

Descendents of Swan Rene gathered at St Charles last Saturday for a family reunion with attendees from Idaho Utah and Wyoming. A noon meal for 162 followed a business meeting and entertainment including songs by Arnell family members readings piano solos and a Laketown orchestra dance concluded the event.

Radio Loveland and Mrs Milford Loveland of Garden City presented a 12 tube console radio to the Stake YWMIA for the girls summer home at Lakota. The set needs new tubes and minor repairs but is otherwise in good condition. The gift is thanked for adding to the refinement of the home.

Honored at Birthday Party for Homer II and Dickie Douglas

Homer II and Dickie Douglas, ages 4 and 1, hosted a joint birthday anniversary party with 22 children. Refreshments of cake ice cream and punch were served. Favors consisted of paper hats in red white and blue. Gifts came from numerous family and friends. A busload of FFA boys with instructor Eugene Hart left for a Yellowstone park trip aboard a Bear Lake Stage bus driven by Willard Hansen.

Dr D C Budge dies at 73 in Logan Utah

Dr David Clare Budge 73 a leader in Utah medicine and a First Security Corp director died at his Logan home after a long illness. He was born Sept 27 1878 in Paris Idaho and trained in medicine and dentistry in Chicago and Illinois. He helped open Utahs first hospital and medical clinics and served on the state medical board. He married Reta Bowen in 1903 and Pearl Spencer in 1946 leaving a widow son and daughter with several grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Logan.
