A long list of Mr and Mrs and families from Paris Montpelier Logan and surrounding towns share visits dinners and travel. Readers mention trips to Salt Lake City Coeur d Alene Needles and McCall Idaho and a Primary convention. Several locals host guests at homes and attend gatherings with extended kin and church groups.
Friends and relatives are invited to an open house on Saturday June 24 from 7 30 to 10 p m at the home of Mr and Mrs Fred A Prince in Paris to honor their Golden Wedding Anniversary. The couple married January 4 1911 in the Logan Temple in Utah.
Bear Lake County obtained a 1954 Packard ambulance from the Idaho War Surplus Agency. It arrived in Boise on June 13 and will be used to supplement local units during emergencies with volunteers, Red Cross trained drivers, and no charge for county moving costs. The vehicle is based at Mark's Chevron Service in Paris, operated with Lions Club cooperation, on a 34 hour call. Contact 945-2292.
Farmers in Bear Lake Franklin and Omeda counties hit by drought may apply for emergency loans at the county Farmers Home Administration office. W Maughan, County Supervisor, says funds may cover farm and home operating expenses livestock machinery water shortages and other drought related needs while repayment terms vary by purpose and income. Interest is three percent and eligibility requires farming activity prospects and inability to obtain credit elsewhere.
Paul Gosbel departed Saturday for a vocation drive and tour of the Castorm states. He aims to visit multiple towns and meet local groups during the trip.
Glenn Passey Uankark and Adolph Plummer of New Mexico won first places in Philadelphia in the NCAA track meet. Passey took the discus at 176 feet 8 inches and Plummer edged to the 440 yard dash in 46.2 seconds. Blaine Lindgren of Utah earned All American honors with a third in the high hurdles and a 14.0 clocking.
The Paris Second Ward Welfare Farm Committee invites sealed bids for hay grown on the Ward Farm. Bids cover hay as it stands weighed as moved from the field. Bids must be received by June 27, 1961, 7:00 p.m. Failure to clean out hay excludes bidder from future bids. Hay paid upon completion.
Funeral services for Dr. Milford M. Shepherd were held in Boise on Wednesday June 1 and in Paris the next day. He died June 10 1961 in Boise after a heart attack. Interment followed in Paria Cemetery with services by Bishop Clifford Price and remarks by several relatives from Utah and Idaho.
The family expresses deep gratitude to the Relief Society for care and to all who sent food or helped at the funeral of Dr Milford Shepherd. Signed by Mrs Ella Shepherd and the siblings and families of the Shepherds and Wilcox family.
The Bear Lake Rangers announce two days of entertainment in Paris featuring a July 3 horse show at the Paris Fairground, Chuckwagon Breakfast, a Fourth parade, rodeo, and a fireworks display. Organizers urge attendance to enjoy a friendly, community atmosphere with emphasis on improved arenas and large crowds.
Marilyn Ward Miss Bear Lake County wins first place in the Talent division of the Miss Idaho Pageant 1961 with a piano solo Tocatts by Khatchaturian. Contingent of 26 Idaho contestants split into two groups for talent, swim wear, and evening gown events Friday and Saturday.
Graveside rites conducted June 5 1961 for Mary Ann infant daughter of Ronald and Mary Hansen of Garden City. Bishop Mitchell Sime offered a home prayer. Wilford Hansen gave invocation. Melinda Gibbons sang Your Sweet Little Hose Bud Has Left You. Milford Loveland spoke. Mattie Price played Whispering Hope on accordion. Loyd Christianson dedicated the grave.
A survey party at Tony Grove Ranger Station outlines a location survey to build a new road into Tony Grove Lake, diverting south into Twin Creek Basin before rejoining Tony Creek. The project aims to ease the steep grades of the present route, with construction possibly in 1962 or 1963. Ranger DeSpain will also develop a Tony Lake camping area for 39 families this summer with basic amenities.
The Bear Lake Rangers held their Queen Contest Monday evening at the Pa Fairgrounds. Susan Kunz from Bern riding on Katie won the title. Attendant Jackie Carney from Lakota rode Ringo, and second attendant Irene Crane from Bennington rode Pat.
