The Montpelier Chamber of Commerce took a 25 member goodwill tour to Ovid Paris Bloomington St. Charles Fish Haven Garden City Laketown Leefe and Cokeville. They toured courthouses packing plants and businesses from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. distributing money clips.
David Calder 78 of Garden City Utah died of a heart ailment June 10 en route to Bear Lake Memorial Hospital in Montpelier. He was born May 11 1890 in Paris a farmer and LDS member who married Irene Merritt in Paris July 19 1915 and in the Logan LDS Temple. Surviving are widow, two sons Robert M Calder and David Gale, four daughters Oral Lutz Elma Nicholls Betty Hansen and Eugene Erickson. 21 grandchildren 7 great grandchildren and several sisters. Funeral 1 pm Thursday at Garden City LDS Ward Chapel. burial Garden City Cemetery.
Utah Power and Light unveils a $200,000 Preston Division headquarters at 509 South 2nd East. The public open house on June 15 runs 2:00 to 7:00 pm with tours, demonstrations, and light refreshments. The building houses meter, drafting, engineering, warehouse and truck facilities with a heat pump system for year round comfort.
State Policeman Ed Chadwell reports three accidents in the latter part of last week. Glenn Lewis of Paris fell asleep at the wheel on Highway 89, causing a single vehicle mishap near Montpelier with $200 damage. he was cited for the basic rule. Keith Lewis of Pocatello hit a car on leaving the highway near Fish Haven, damaging a fence and a pickup, with $500 damage to the pickup and $150 to the other car. he was cited and fined $105 for DUI and received a 90 day license suspension. Vernon Anderson of Fish Haven rolled a pickup on Fish Haven Canyon Road near Highway 89, slight injury, treated and released, cited for the basic rule.
Mrs. Max Nield and Mrs. Willard Stucki announce the semiannual Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at A. J. Winters School in Montpelier on Wednesday June 26 from 2 00 to 6 30 p m. Girl Scout Troop No. 581 will provide babysitting for donors.
The Bear Lake County Grassman Tour and dinner will be held Wednesday June 19 at 12 30 p.m. at the Lester Skinner Ranch in Noonan. Lester Skinner will be honored as Grassman of the Year for civic contributions with a Dutch oven dinner, ranch review, and moon program followed by a ranch tour. The Grassman Committee invites ranchers and business men in the valley to attend.
The annual Ranger Queen Contest will be held at 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the Paris rodeo grounds. Organized by Delmoine Hansen and Sterling Vallentine, it is open to any young woman. Contestants receive a gift and the Queen and attendants trophies and roles with the Rangers. Public invitation is extended.
During the county board session negotiations closed on the lower Minnetonka Cave highway right of way from Highway 89 at St. Charles to the Cache National Forest line. Alton Mich aelson of St. Charles agreed to a price for his property. The National Forest will build the road and Bear Lake County will maintain it. construction awaits funds and likely cannot finish before next summer.
A highly rated Garland Utah womens softball team that played in the Las Vegas Tournament last year will face Lloyds and Einzingers teams in a doubleheader starting at 7 30 p m Friday at Wells C Stock park Montpelier. No admission is charged.
