An erroneous impression about the Emigration Canyon and Pearl Creek Basin closures is cleared. Bear Lake fish rearing ponds eyed by Idaho Utah officials
Idaho and Utah game departments study Bear Lake potential with cooperation from the U S Bureau of Fisheries. They compare Bear Lake with Utah’s Fish Lake, noting potential revenue from tourism and guided fishing. Officials plan a scientific survey and seek eggs for stocking, with cross state coordination and government support.
Bear Lake stocking plans spark Idaho Utah cooperation
Dr W E Smith of Logan Utah urges stocking Bear Lake with Mackinaw trout and rearing ponds funded by both states. The group proposes 400000 fish reared for release, with 200000 eggs from the government to each state. Idaho officials push pond building and a higher game license to support stocking while opposing seining. The Bear Lake Fish and Game Club committee will study pond sites and conduct surveys, with a July meeting and a banquet at Ideal Beach.
