Farmers in Bear Lake County are urged to use clean cultivation to control weeds on dry and irrigated lands. The article identifies Russian Thistle Fan Weed wild oats mustard bull thistle and notes methods including timely plowing harrowing and crop rotation. Persistent cultivation can eradicate weeds within one to two seasons with minimal labor.
Frank Nye, with son Willard and daughter Mrs. Haze Smith, narrowly avoid a crash on the road south of Laketown Utah while en route to the city in a Hudson. An approaching car with bright lights caused the near wreck. Mrs. Smith, holding a baby, was thrown from the vehicle but unharmed. The others suffered minor injuries and the car was damaged beyond repair.
Memorial day was observed in Paris by hundreds who gathered at the cemetery to honor the departed. The program, under the city cemetery committee, included a double quartet, a prayer, a short address by Mayor A. W. Shepherd, a girls chorus, an oration by E. L. Foulger, a solo by Blossom Wilks, and a benediction by Pres. M. D. Low.

A notice invites 17 to 24 year olds to enroll in a 30 day Citizens Military Training Camp at Fort Douglas Salt Lake City Utah from June 17 to July 16. The program covers food medical care railroad fare and uniforms under the 1920 act and carries no obligation to serve in the armed forces.

Welker presided and urged Saints to hear the servants of God, follow commandments, and enjoy spiritual nourishment. Shepherd, who served as chorister for nearly fifty years.
Jas H Wallis executive secretary of the Utah Public Health Association was elected to the board of directors of the National Tuberculosis Association for the sixth straight year. The selection occurred on the opening day of the annual convention in Indianapolis.

The annual alumni ball at the Paris Pavilion Friday evening closed Fielding High activities for 1926 1927 and marked a social and financial success. The Tavern Orchestra of Montpelier provided music for the occasion.
Ernest Gubler of this city returns from three months abroad visiting Switzerland Canada England Belgium Germany and Switzerland. He sailed on the President Roosevelt from Liverpool May 16 arriving New York May 27 and was seasick three days during the crossing.
The annual meeting of the Keystone Phosphate Company of Paris Idaho will be held at the company office in Paris Idaho at 12 o'clock noon on June 14 1927 to elect officers for the ensuing year and to transact any other business. Signed F S Irwin President.
Alfred P Sloan Jr of General Motors announces a year long ad campaign praising home town papers as the country’s most influential publication. He argues ads in local columns could bring 20 to 50 prospective car buyers and suggests a permanent annual slot.
Charles Lindbergh, age 25, made a solo non-stop flight from New York to Paris in his home built plane. He faced dense fog and storms, flying 1900 miles alone to become a hero on both sides of the ocean. He spoke by telephone with his Detroit mother and comforted Mme Nungesser, mother of the missing aviator, as crowds celebrated a landmark in Franco American goodwill.
State Road Supervisor W J Funk told the Logan chamber the Bear Lake Logan road through Logan Canyon won’t open before June 10 and perhaps June 15. Snow from Beaver to the summit and on the Garden City side delays work. Road equipment will be used to remove snow as soon as possible.
Paris Chautauqua presents a four day program starting Monday June 27 featuring the Ellison White Company. The schedule includes musical drama and speaking acts with top drawing performances on the circuit. A complete four day program will be published in the next issue.
The Mutual associations of the Bear Lake stake plan Sunday night programs in all wards throughout the summer. June schedule includes inter ward meetings with towns like Fish Haven Garden City Laketown Paris St Charles Bloomington Ovid Lanark and Liberty plus a June 19 stake rally in the tabernacle and a June 26 round of exchanges across the stake.
The community mourns the death of Robert Linvall 63 in Montpelier from stomach cancer. Survived by three daughters Mrs Ernest Hubschmid Los Angeles and Mrs Neva Hildt and Mrs Lillian Hildt Garden City Utah, son Allen, three sisters in California, and two brothers. Funeral held at sister Mrs Mike Malone’s home with Pres Ed Rich and H H Broomhead speakers. Burial in Montpelier Cemetery with grave dedication by Pres Ed Rich.
The Liberty community will host the second annual Black and White dairy show in mid June, inviting all Holstein owners to bring well groomed cattle. Last year featured over fifty registered Holsteins and about twenty five grade animals with strong visitor interest. The event aims to be a broader rural showcase beyond a single community.
The Young Ladies Stake Board entertained the Stake Board of Y M M T A and partners at a chicken dinner at Mutual Glenn in Lakota on Tuesday evening. Tables were decorated in green and gold, the M T A colors, with forty covers. The evening featured six planned rounds of games.
