Pheasant and deer hunting rules in Idaho regions described

The July Idaho Fish and Game meeting set deer hunting dates for Bear Lake Caribou Bannock and Franklin counties. Bear Lake includes Montpelier and C B Wilson preserves. Franklin east of the Downey Weston line opens October 20 to 29. Pocatello elk hunt runs October 15 to 20 with 150 permits, $5 permit fee and $2 tag. Bear Lake pheasant season banned. other counties open November 11 with bag limit two cock birds.

Season Closed on Muskrats for Bear Lake County

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission closed trapping season on muskrats in Bear Lake and Caribou counties. An open mink season runs November 1 to December 31 in Bear Lake and southeastern Idaho counties including Fremont Madison Jefferson Clark Bingham Bannock Power Teton Caribou Bonneville, excluding Gray's Lake and its watershed to the Idaho Falls highway bridge.

Idaho Airmarking Program Aims to Brighten Town Names

Idaho communities join an all out airmark effort by the Department of Aeronautics to improve navigation. About forty towns have markers in chrome yellow letters with an airport symbol and longitude latitude cues, starting in Boise Valley and Burley area. Communities pay 25 dollars toward costs while the department provides equipment, crew, and paint.

Payne Family Reunion At Lakota Resort

The annual Payne family reunion honoring Samuel Payne was held July 27 at Lakota resort with about sixty attendees. A 1 PM dinner preceded visiting and a short program at 8 PM. The day included boating and swimming. J. A. Payne served as chairman.

Mrs Brockbank Visits Salt Lake Family Ties

Mrs Mark J Brockbank and sons Clark and Wayne of Salt Lake spent several days last week with her mother Mrs Hiza B Cook. Mrs Cook joined them in Salt Lake Friday for the weekend and visited in Heber City with her son Merrill Cook and family.

Fire Destroys Laketown Home Monday

Fire of unknown origin destroyed the home of Mr. and Mrs. C Alley at Laketown on Monday afternoon. Neighbors and passersby moved goods and fought flames as water supply issues and wind worsened the blaze. The partly log and frame dwelling burned to the ground with substantial loss inside. the Alleys were away in Salt Lake and plan to recover what they can with insurance believed present.

Auto crash near Rexburg kills three including 17 year old Jack Cooper

A two-vehicle collision near Rexburg, Idaho, killed Jack Cooper 17, Bud Jardine 17, and Sandra Cooper 2 while injuring six others. The truck occupants were uninjured. Coroner Victor Chandler cited unclear fault as he investigated the center-line crash.

Red Cross Swim School Proves Very Successful

The Red Cross swimming school at Bear Lake Hot Springs drew 118 participants over three days. In Bear Lake only 16 percent can swim, but after the course 26 could swim the pool width and 24 learned to float, with instructors and volunteers thanked for their support.

Arnell Family Reunion Draws Thirty Members in St Charles Canyon

The Albert Arnell reunion gathered thirty family members on July 24 from 11 a m to 5 pm at a canyon campground. Attendees included Mary and Albert Arnell Cornell Arnell Almy Barker Wendell Mecham Kenneth Arnell and other relatives from St Charles and Kemmerer Wyo DeLloyd Arnell LaGrande Arnell and Montpelier residents. The Clarence Nelsons of Big Piney were absent. Families contributed food and the menu featured hamburgers potato salad macaroni salad vegetable salad pork and beans pickles cucumbers cheese lettuce cold drinks chocolate cake fruit cake raisin loaf and watermelon. After lunch games such as charades and softball filled the afternoon.

Starting Fire Without Permit Draws $25 Fine

A fire north of St. Charles on July 24 was started without a burning permit. T J Michaelson pleaded before Judge W B Hoge with Fire Warden Bert Mahoney presiding. Forest Ranger Jay B Hann aided in extinguishing the blaze which damaged several rods of fence. The incident comes under Idaho law stating a June 1 to Sept 30 no permit burn season in forest districts. Penalties may reach $300 and six months in jail.

Mrs. Gertsch Shot by Rifle Accident

Mrs. Smith Gertsch sustained a bullet wound when a .22 rifle fired at a barking dog struck her arm and stomach as she stood in a driveway between Weldon Hess and the dog. She was treated at Bear Lake hospital in Montpelier and expected to recover.
