Word reached Montpelier that Donovan Kunz son of Mrs Pearl Kunz was killed around July 5 in the European theater. He served in the Army Air Corps ground crew based in England and had married only months before shipping overseas.
Seventy one members of the Hyrum and Elizabeth Rich family met at Mine Flats Park in St. Charles canyon on Friday July 14 for a reunion and to honor three sons home on furloughs from the armed forces. Wayne Rich Morgan, mul. served in the South Pacific. 1st Lt Wayne Rich Pugmire, stationed at DeRidder Louisiana. Russell Rich, who finished electrical engineering at Farragut Idaho, arrived late. A bonfire wiener roast and group activities followed. Seven Star Valley relatives attended. Newlyweds Wayne and Pugmire left for Louisiana July 22. Russell departed for California. Wayne Morgan leaves July 27 for Annapolis.
The Daughters of Utah Pioneers will hold their annual program in the Seminary building on the Paris tabernacle grounds on Thursday July 27 at 1 o'clock. Following the meeting there will be a social hour. All members and interested individuals are urged to attend.
Mrs Roy A Welker and Mrs Maurine Dixon with three children left Monday for Twin Falls to visit their daughter and sister Mrs Roy Balbbel and family.
Pvt. Keith Brimhall from Paris Idaho known as the Idaho Cowboy rode an enraged Italian ox in a Fifth Army rodeo in Italy. He stayed mounted 80 seconds before the fall while crowds cheered him as one of the best riders. He previously rode in a Tunisian show and has served overseas since 1942. His engineer company is repairing roads and bridges along the Fifth Army front.
Bennington Idaho native Teewe Ww. Wright piloted an 18th AB-24 Liberator for a dawn raid against Yap island on June 22. The mission struck the runway, destroyed 15 plus of about 45 enemy aircraft on the ground, and achieved surprise with minimal enemy interception and heavy anti aircraft fire.
The War Department told the Ninth Service Command Quartermaster Corps at Fort Douglas Utah that about 16 000 000 pounds of candy will be issued free this year to troops in areas lacking Army post exchange facilities. The candy is all hard peppermint cherry orange clove lemon and lime flavors.
The Friday Afternoon Bridge club entertained their Sunbands at a Can Yon party Friday evening. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. W. Smith Hoge, Mr. and Mrs. L. Ll. Deardorff, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Bear Lake hit a five year high on June 25 with water 2 feet above last year and the peak may be the highest since 1939. L. L. Deardorff of the Utah Power Company reports steady April to June flow from the Bear River watershed with the greatest discharge 1700 Cfs at Stuart Dam on April 9 and a final peak of 1600 Cfs on June 14 due to late storms near Evanston Wyoming.
One million 4-H club members nationwide will participate in National Farm Safety Week from July 28 to 29 to promote accident prevention on farms. The program expands to 44 states this year with incentives including medals bonds trips and scholarships funded by William G. Mennen. The top county in each state will receive a special plaque.
A state planting plan allocates 475 000 trout from the American Falls hatchery to Bear Lake area waters and streams. Rainbow trout 265 000 fish, native cutthroats 210 000. Distribution includes Bear Lake proper 75 000 and nearby streams. rainbow placements split across Bear River Georgetown Deer creeks and others. natives assigned to Stump, Crow Sage, Thomas Fork, St Charles Bloomington, Georgetown, and Paris creeks with varied totals.

Jon Collingar reports a cow moose in a field just north of town Sunday evening. The animal returned to the mountains overnight with several others seen nearby. About five years ago a large bull moose was captured in the lowlands below Paris and taken to the Montpelier game preserve.
A wartime account recalls flying the Burma China airlift over the Himalayas from India to China. Pilots face monsoon rain and Japanese fighters while delivering scarce gasoline and war materiel to General Chenault and Chinese allies, risking life for China’s survival.
Funeral services were conducted at Ward Chapel for James Dunn who died Sunday. Bishop Clarence Rich of the Paris 1st ward led the rites with prayers, solos by Jane Shepherd and Max Haddock, remarks by W. Smith Hoge and Dan C. Rich, and a final blessing by Bishop Grimmett. Interment followed in Paria cemetery with grave dedication by Henry Humpterys. The Williams Mortuary handled arrangements.
Antoine Louis Beck, a former Paris Idaho resident born August 81 1877 in Paris, died in Salt Lake City. He married Isabella Dye in 1905 and operated a large Paris area farm before moving to Salt Lake City in 1906 to work for the Utah Eight and Traction Co. Funeral services were held in Salt Lake City with burial at Paris City Cemetery. Surviving are the widow and three children plus siblings.
The Idaho Fish and Game Commission approved a Lost River special antelope hunt for 2000 head from September 3 to 10. The season, earlier than usual, covers Butte, Clark, Custer, Jefferson and Lemhi counties with a $4 permit fee and antelope tag. Applications due to the Boise department 10 days before the draw. eligible any Idaho license holder.
Idaho Special Session established a method to mail absentee ballots to military voters on written request. County Auditor Sam V. Tunks reports servicemen are already requesting ballots and urges families to submit requests promptly. Ballots will be ready by month end and mailing may take time, so accuracy in addresses is essential.
Sgt. Raymond Dimick, engineer-gunner with the Tenth Air Force Heavy Bombardment Group, praised for meritorious achievement on missions over India Burma Thailand and the Andaman Islands. He has served over six months in combat and already holds the Good Conduct Medal and Distinguished Unit Citation Badge.
Mr and Mrs Lewis Stone and daughter Viola of Franklin visited the Wm Lauritzen home on Sunday. Viola remained for a longer visit.
