Chairman A. Thiel reports Bear Lake County surpassed its $260,000 bond quota with total purchases of $302,837.50. Of this, $148,397.75 were E bonds. Reads, Montpelier $90,277.75 sold of $110,000 quota. other towns listed with varying receipts. Outside county allocations included Union Pacific rail group and state funds totaling significant support.

In the first five months of 1944 the Office of Price Administration enforcement sent 28 car owners to jail and convicted 159 for buying gas with counterfeit or stolen coupons or without coupons. It suspended gas selling rights at 1,538 stations, closed 156 sites, and jailed 236 counterfeiters and dealers.

Cache Forest Establishes Per Diem Fire Guards
The Cache National Forest sets up per diem guards for the west side of Bear Lake Valley. Named firemen from communities including Nounani Primi, Sharon, Liberty, Paris, Bloomington, and Nephi are trained annually and equipped for firefighting under Forest Ranger Jay B. Hann in Paris Idaho. They protect adjacent Cathe National Forest areas and prevent small fires from becoming large conflagrations.

Perry Hess Dies at Sheep Camp of Heart Attack
Jacob Perry Hess aged 89 died at a sheep camp above Paris canyon likely from a heart attack on or about July 4. Sterling Rich found the body July 6. Graveside rites were held Saturday at one o'clock with Bishop Clarence Rich presiding and local clergy officiating. Hess, born February 9, 1876 in Bloomington, was long a valley herder and timberman. He leaves three sisters and three brothers and his widow Mrs. Tommy Gichiel Hess. The F M Williams Mortuary handled arrangements.

Funeral Service for Elmer Parker Held in Bloomington Ward
Funeral services were held for Elmer Parker at the Bloomington ward chapel with Bishop LaVell in charge. The program included choirs, speakers Dan C and Breas Burdette Pugmire, and Benediction by George An. Parker, 46, died suddenly July 4 at his Antelope Flat farm home ten miles south of Pogram, Utah. He is survived by Lula Christensen Parker and numerous family members.

Sheep and Cattle Move to Summer Grazing Grounds
Over 60 000 sheep and 1000 cattle moved from spring ranges on private land and U S Grazing Service lands to summer range on the Cache National Forest on July 1. Forest Supervisor James Q Stewart reports thirteen thousand cattle entered the forest in June as owners and cattle associations shift stock to summer ranges. He came to Montpelier in 1804 and was born April 25 257 On July 10 1896 he married Catherine Young and they lived on their canyon ranch. James Dunn 75 Dies of Heart Attack in Pegram Home
James Dunn 75 longtime Bear Lake Valley resident died Sunday at his son Weldon Dunn’s home in Pegram from a heart attack. He was born in Montpelier and married on October 27, 1802 in the Logan temple, later serving as County Assessor in Paris and active in church work. Surviving are seven daughters, two sons, twenty grandchildren, one great grandchild, and eight brothers. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Paris Second Ward chapel.
