Paris man Jerrold Bolton injured in 40 foot fall
Jerrold Bolton, 23, fell about 40 feet from a sheer cliff at Bloomington Lake while climbing with three boys. He was rushed by six fishermen to Bear Lake Memorial Hospital in Paris and listed in critical condition, later improved after X rays. Bolton was finishing a Utah summer session and had been assigned to FBI School in September.

Senate Committee Approves Georgetown Creek Project
The Senate Agriculture Committee approved work plans for the Georgetown Creek Watershed Project in Bear Lake County. If the House Agriculture Committee rejects, funding may face deep cuts under a 96 billion federal spending reduction. The Soil Conservation Service says 53 farms and 37 property owners in Georgetown would benefit from the 30 700 acre project.

Bear Lake Rangers Fourth of July Celebration Draws Big Turnout
The Bear Lake Rangers held their annual Independence Day events starting with a 6:00 a.m. chuckwagon breakfast serving about 1,200 people including tourists from several states. Merlin Olsen of Logan, now in California, was among the honorees. The parade judged by three anonymous panelists produced winners in multiple categories and a grand prize for Eona's Craft Shop. Rodeo results followed with winners in bareback riding calf roping wild cow riding and other events. Fireworks capped the evening at the fair grounds.
