School Board Considers Austerity Measures Amid Funding Shortfall

At the July meeting of School District No. 83 the board warned of funding gaps from weak legislation and elections. They proposed cutting activity buses and private car use, halting scouting expenses, and adjusting book fees. One-teacher staffing for Geneva Bern and Bennington was considered to match smaller enrollments. A policy on married students was outlined for next week. The calendar sets Sept 3 to May 22 1964 with 177 instructional days and several holidays. Bids will be sought for coal gas and bus insurance.
