High Spartans Add Ninth Win In Close Montpelier Victory
Melding High Spartans extended their winning streak with a 46 to 29 victory over Montpelier on Wednesday. The lead shifted through the first half with a 16-16 tie after three quarters as Bancroft, the rival, pulled ahead to win 46-34. Fielding Juniors beat the Seconds 33-28. Soda Springs defeated the local squad 43-38 after a tight fourth quarter, while Fielding Junior Ralty lost 32-27 to Springs.

Etta Mae Skinner Dies at Preston
Mrs. Etta May Morgan Skinner aged 75 of Noonan died at her daughter’s home in Wreston after a brief illness. Born May 13, 1874 in Polk County Georgia she moved with her family to Paris Idaho in 188? and later to Nouan. She married Nephi A. Skinner in 1898 in the Logan Temple. Active in Relief Society Sunday School and Mutual Improvement she taught in Bear Lake County schools and led the Nanun school. Survived by sons and daughters and many grandchildren. funeral held in Nouan ward chapel.

David Pugmire died Saturday after eight weeks of illness. Born January 11, 1870 in St. Charles, he was a lifelong resident and son of Jonathan and Caroline Nelson Pugmire. Survived by widow Mina Ester Holdt Wilkes and three children Marguerite Christensen, Violet Nelson, and Purtell Pugmire. two sisters Annie Keetch and Nora Cleveland. eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday at 1 p.m. in St. Charles ward chapel with services conducted by Bishop Arlin R. Pugmire and others. pallbearers were nephews. Mrs Walter Poulsen left Wednesday for Portland to visit relatives.

A near capacity crowd watched 11 bouts at Fielding High School Saturday night led by Curtis Austin of Liberty defeating Ralph Langford of Montpelier in a fierce three rounder. Langford suffered a fractured jaw while Austin broke a bone in his right hand.

Hitler Blooker Hooker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Myrl H. Hooker, of the Montpelier First Ward, has been called to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in France. He will enter the Missionary Home in Salt Lake City on February 6 after graduating from Montpellier High School in 1947 and attending USAC at Logan.

Funeral Rites Held for LeRoy Love Land in Fish Haven
Funeral services for LeRoy Love land were conducted in the Fish Haven ward chapel with Bishop Owen Stock presiding. The program included multiple musical numbers by the Ladies chorus and soloists, prayers by Orson Harmon, and remarks by Bishops and Pres. Burdette Pugmire. Burial followed at the Fish Haven cemetery with Kenneth Loveland dedicating the grave.
