The Teelding High School Student Body sponsors a public dance Saturday January 1 after the Paris Montpelier basketball game. It will be in Fielding gym with music by Woody Wayward and his orchestra. General admission six cents.
Bobbie Wilcox, grandson of Mr and Mrs Elmer Wilcox, underwent an appendicitis operation Friday morning at Bear Lake hospital. He is reported to be improving and getting along fine.
China Chung Kuo, known as China, is described as the first nation to sign the United Nations Charter with a vast area and population. Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek leads its government. Nanking is the capital. The nation holds permanent and multi body UN roles and sits on the Security Council with a blue flag featuring a white star.
The Searchlight features Young Mr. Lincoln as the first educational film shown to Fielding High students in an assembly. The group, led by Earl Bonham, promotes film programs to boost morale and visual instruction with Gwen Miller and faculty advisors noted for their work. The second film, Schubert, the Melody Master, is scheduled for January 27.
The Fielding Spartans face the Montpelier Bears in a highly anticipated game Saturday January 11 in the local gym. The junior varsity tips at 7 p.m. and the varsity around 8:60 p.m. Referees Bobrunker and Art Judd of Pocatello, slated for the 1947 District Basketball tournament, are praised as top officials in southern Idaho.
Bob Fulton local manager of Mr. States Telephone Company said new equipment is arriving and the Western Electric crew is installing it. He cautioned it will take several months before the system is back in tip top condition.
The Literary club entertained guests at the Hotel Paris with a turkey dinner and card playing. Table decor featured evergreen and red and white candles. Prizes went to Mrs Weldon Grandy and Mr Thomas Piggott for high scores in Progressive Rook.
Andre Lablanchy of France, a Milk National Service employee, visits the University of Idaho Dairy Department to observe American dairying. He notes France’s aim to adopt U.S. research, management, and breeding to increase milk production and cattle numbers after the war, and mentions interest in Extension and 4-H programs to rural youth.
District Judge C. J. Taylor has ordered Bonneville County fathers who fail to provide for their families to jail and work for the county at $1.50 a day. Their earnings will go to their families, a sentence already imposed in two prior cases.
Mr and Mrs William Lauritzen motored to Premi on Thursday for the wedding anniversary of Mrs Lauritzen's brother. They were accompanied by Miss Viola Lauritzen who has been visiting here.
Anna Clara Stucki, 87, longtime Paris Idaho resident and civic worker, died January 1 1947 at the home of her daughter in Logan Utah after age related infirmities. Surviving are a son E S Stucki and daughter Mrs W W Richards seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren two nieces. Funeral services were held at the Bear Lake Stake tabernacle Paris with interment in Paris cemetery.
Alton P. Bunderson of Bear Lake appointed superintendent of state police by new Commissioner Robert C. Lewis, succeeding Leon Jackson. Bunderson, a Fielding High School graduate from St. Charles, was chosen from about sixty applications and will take office after moving with his family.
George Leroy Langford, 95, longtime Garden City resident and former Montpelier settler, died Saturday at his home of a heart ailment. Born December 29, 1869 in Milwaukee, he moved to Montpelier in 1881 and Garden City 55 years ago. He married Celia Pope in 1891 and worked as a farmer and painter. Survived by widow, four daughters, four sisters, three brothers, 17 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Funeral Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Garden City chapel. burial in Garden City cemetery. Matthews Mortuary, Montpelier, in charge.
The Betsy Ross Chapter No. 17 Order of the Eastern Star held an installation in the Montpelier Masonic hall for the 1947 officers. Miss Rosa Hann presented her mother with roses. a piano accordion duet opened the ceremony and several officers were named with titles such as Worthy Matron, Worthy Patron, and Conductress. A reception followed in the banquet room.
Car and truck licenses will not be available at the Assessor's office until sometime in February according to word from the Department of Law Enforcement. Those with special or low numbers should notify the Assessor due to the expected rush facilitated by Mr. Transtrum.
Mrs J W Cook visits Provo Utah to spend New Year with her daughter Mrs Libby Hayward. She returned to Paris on Thursday.
The Stucki funeral displayed many floral tributes cared for by the Relief Society of the Paris First ward. Out of town attendees included D W Stowell Rexburg Annie Kerr Rexburg Libbie Howard Provo Mark Brockbank Salt Lake City and several others from Logan Montpelier Soda Springs and Heber. The Stucki and Richards families express deep appreciation for the kindness and services shown during Clara Stucki's illness and passing.
Gov. C. A. Robins appeals to Idahoans for vigorous participation in the 1947 March of Dimes campaign. Theatre managers across Idaho will join the drive January 24 to 30, with funds staying locally, supporting polio care and Foundation programs amid record 1946 cases and high treatment costs.
Mr and Mrs Mitchel Sparks and daughters Emma Rose and Joan return to Nampa after holidays in Paris with the Fenton Allred J H Sparks and Ben Kelsey families. They called on Friday and Saturday in Montpelier at the C N Sparks home.
Mrs Emma Shepherd won high score at the Friday Afternoon Bridge club hosted by Mrs Charles Innes. Guests included Mesdames Dorothy Tueller Mona Shepherd Ethel Jensen Bertha Hoge Audrey Monson Inez Tunks, who enjoyed light refreshments.
Mr and Mrs Earl C Bonham entertained at a New Years Eve dinner. Guests included Mr and Mrs William Jensen Mr and Mrs W Smith Hoge Mr and Mrs William Lauritzen Mr and Mrs A W Shepherd and Bishop and Mrs O H Grimmett. The evening featured rock with Mrs Shepherd and Mr Shepherd winning high scores among ladies and men respectively. Mrs Jensen earned the ladies low score prize and W Smith Hoge the men’s low. Wm Jensen won the all cut prize.
At the Northwest Association meeting in Hugene Oregon December 4 5 6 the accreditation report for Fielding High School was approved by the Evaluation committee Fielding High School will keep Northwest Association membership for 1946 47 noting uninterrupted status since 1934 Idaho State chairman J W Condie praised the school for supplying data and maintaining standards The Northwest Association founded April 5 1917 includes about 550 colleges and high schools across seven western states Hawaii and Alaska Membership requires rigorous standards across policies libraries buildings labs texts staff graduation units atmosphere teacher and pupil load schedules and more
The Sparks family held a reunion Sunday December 2 at the Fenton Adlred residence honoring the late James A and Rose M Sparks. A 2 p.m. buffet luncheon followed for relatives including O N Sparks Jean Gordon Daryl Marilyn Sparks Montpelier and many others from Ogden Logan Paris Nampa and Montpelier.
The Doctrines and Covenants Study group met Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Reeder.
The Hereford cows Tip, Top and Teddy, offspring of a Hereford cow and bull, were shown by Gerald and Dennis Pius of Springview Nebraska with Stave Eberhart at the Ak-Sar-Ben Livestock Show in Omaha. The trio, born May 108, weighed about 350 pounds at exhibition in October, and were praised for their potential to produce triplets and strong offspring.
