The board approved federal acting funds totaling about 50,000 for the Lan Liberty road project with no matching funds last year. Salaries and wages accounted for about 2.95 of the budget with 45,859.32 for wages and 155,640.26 for other items in the current ledger.
The Idaho Department of Aeronautics states no self propelled missile projectile may be fired or protected within the state without a permit. Director Chet Moulton emphasizes the order aims at morality and safety, not to deter citizen experiments.
The Fielding Spartans beat Rockland Bulldogs 56 to 32 avenging an earlier loss. Ronnie Peterson led with 21 points, Terral Michaelson added 12, Chadbourne was limited to 4. Glenn Passey was out ill. Fielding IV won 46 to 14. The team heads to American Falls Friday then Bancroft Saturday. District Tournament begins February 20 or 21.
Governor Smylie appointed Louise Shadduck of Coeur d Alene as secretary of the Idaho State Department of Commerce and Development. She has been acting secretary and director of publicity, filling the vacancy created by A B Jonasson's resignation at year end 1957, after advisory council approval.
Melba June Pugmire of Fielding High School Idaho is named Homemaker of Tomorrow on the Bear Lake west side for highest score on a homemaking exam. She advances to national competition with potential scholarships up to 5000 dollars and trips to Washington DC Williamsburg and New York City.
The annual Farm and Home Institute of Caribou County will be held this Saturday February 16 at Grace High School. Sponsored by Caribou County Farm Bureau and Extension staff, the program features Miss Marlene Stegelmeier demonstration agent Bear Lake county on desserts and Miss Hilda Frederick on every other Counts. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with lunch served in the cafeteria.
A February 8 gathering at the ward amusement hall drew nearly 150 Bloomington area residents and former residents for an all afternoon program directed by T. Jay Nelson. The event featured music, readings, a one act play, a ventriloquist act, and dancing with Ray Larsen's orchestra as the night program climaxed.
Dedication of the Ritter Memorial auditorium at Nampa State school takes place today at 10 a m. Governor Robert E Smylie will deliver the principal address. Paul S Stearns M D serves as superintendent and John L Butler M D leads the division of mental health.
W. W. and Wilmer W. Brown of Ovid qualified for the progressive breeders award the highest honor for Holstein breeders. Only 861 breeding establishments nationally have earned it. The Browns are Idaho’s ninth recipients. A bronze plaque will be presented at a tasting event for Holstein breeders.
After months of debate the Montpelier school board approves the latest proposed site for a new school. The city council will exchange the old Washington site for properties on Sixth and Clay streets, enlarging the Central school parcel to just over 10 acres for a south facing building with entrance on Sixth Street.
At the Fielding High School auditorium on Monday evening the P T A viewed two educational films Democracy in the Classroom and Youth Crisis. A trumpet solo by Dan Rich delighted attendees followed by refreshments. Meetings are held the That Monday of every month and all are urged to attend.
The Paris unit of the Farm Bureau will hold its monthly meeting Monday evening February 17 at 8 o'clock in the Emerson school gym. Special plans are arranged for the women and an unusual program for the men. All members and friends are urged to attend.
Fielding High School elected senior Beck as Miss Fieldonian and Jerry Tippets as Mr. Searchlight in a Fieldonian and Searchlight sponsored ceremony. Anita hes proved a capable Pep Club drill master and editor of Fieldonian yearbook while serving as Thespian treasurer. Jerry, a transfer from Afton Wyoming, is senior class vice president and Intramural president.
A short circuit in a television set caused a blaze at Darwin Vallentine's home a mile north of Paris last Thursday night. The fire, which left the house a total loss and damaged rugs draperies and furniture, prompted a redecorating of the entire residence after the family was away.
Idaho Secretary of State notes the Freedom to Work Committee needs 22 869 valid signatures to place the initiative on the November ballot. Required is at least 10 percent of the governor's last election total, here 228 685 votes, under Section 34 1805 Idaho Code.
The annual St Charles Old Folks party is set for Saturday February 22 with events starting at 7:30 p.m. A dance will follow and organizers invite all current and former St Charles ward residents to attend and enjoy the evening.
The county school bond drive hosts mass meetings across Montpelier area as voters consider 436000 in bonds at 4 percent. Funds would build two Montpelier schools including a 15 room elementary and a vocational agriculture and mechanical arts building to replace Washington School after a two year old fire.
The Paris Lions Club sponsor the Outlaw Basketball Tournament set for March 12 13 and 15 in Fielding High School gym. Entry is 10 per team of 10 players plus 1 per extra player beyond ten, with organizer Darwin Vallentine contacting managers to assemble 10 to 12 teams.
Monsanto Chemical Co. reports unaudited 1957 net earnings of 48.878 million, up 6.8 percent from 1956. Sales reach 708.005 million versus 658.882 million in 1956. Earnings per common share climb to 2.20, up 0.07 from 2.18.
