Annual Old Folks Party Shines in Paris Pavilion

The Paris community held its annual Old Folks Party with a pre event picture show at Novelty Theatre and dinner in the First Ward chapel. A staged program and dance followed featuring a Russian burlesque orchestra and a crossing the plains pageant to recall pioneer life.

Carpenters Repair Stake Office Building After Fire

Local carpenters work on the stake office building damaged by fire three weeks ago. Much of the roof is being rebuilt and plaster calso mining and painting will be needed.

Montpelier Clerk Crulikshank Leaves for Chicago in Illness

Montpelier City Clerk Fred Cruikshank departed for Chicago Sunday with Harold Dunn due to a serious illness in his family. The journey was by overland travel. A later line notes a funeral Sunday in the L D B church for an unnamed youngster and a mule incident described in fragmentary detail.

Belarsky to sing at Paris stake tabernacle February 16

Isidor Belarsky, noted Russian artist, will perform at the Paris stake tabernacle on Monday February 16. Admission is fifty cents, with proceeds aiding local citizens and listeners within a 650 mile radius. Belarsky, born in Odessa, trained in Berlin and Leningrad, has starred in operas across Europe and made a celebrated New York debut. He is currently Special Professor of Music at Brigham Young University.

John Norton of Ogden Utah, 80, praised for health and vigor, attended a Paris party with out-of-town guests. The Norton couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary at home in Utah and were honored at a reunion and banquet.

A social supper was given in Paris for ward officers and teachers. Members of the stake presidency were present and a good time prevailed.

The death notice recalls John B. Baker longtime Beaverhead County clerk and auditor and first U O U freight agent. He lived in Montpelier Blackfoot and Janks Falls and was well known to many old residents.

Officials Instruct Boys At Scout Meeting

Four officials led a Saturday meeting of committees and scouts from several troops in a drive to advance Boy Scout work. Glenn Grimmett passed second grade scout exam. John Giles of Salt Lake City to instruct southeastern area committees at Montpelier March 16. Next council meeting scheduled for Paris March 1 with Mr. Watkins.

Poison Bread Kills Three In Poverty Stricken Family

Brownwood Texas February 10 a poverty pinched tenant farmer and two of his children are dead and his wife and three other children were critically ill from poison in home made bread. Officials weigh whether poisoning was deliberate or accidental while two years ago bread frosting was used against grasshoppers. The dead include H A Jones 40 Hillary 8 and E 6. The surviving mother and three others were seriously ill but may recover.

Idaho Farm Bloc Threatens Filibuster for Tax Relief

Boise Feb 10 The Idaho House faces a farm bloc threat to filibuster to force enactment of tax relief legislation. Thirty six members form the bloc chaired by horse-daucus with O B Wilson leading the House Democratic caucus. The resolution calls tax relief a nonpartisan issue and pledges a thorough study of all measures while holding the twenty first session in session until relief is enacted.

Bears Visit Fielding in Friday Night Doubleheader

On Friday evening February 18 the Fielding Gym hosts a Montpelier Bears home annual clash and a Fielding second team game against North Rich High. The Bears boast a passing and shooting attack and aim to avenge a prior defeat by Fielding as Montpellier players are confident of high level basketball. Fielding travels twice this week and aims for wins against both opponents.

Grim Reaper Claims Safe Hazelton Smith

A sad report from Ogden Utah states Hazelton Smith 29 of Evanston Wyoming died after complications from an appendix operation. Funeral services were held in Ogden and the body was brought to Evanston for interment in the city cemetery. Surviving are widow Elva Nye Smith and two children Hazel C. and Franklin A. plus four brothers and sisters.

Clayton former manager of Paris Drug Co says he will open Clayton Pharmacy in the prominent building. Fixtures are being prepared and the store expected to be ready for business by March 1.
