Craig H Hansen son of Mr and Mrs Lloyd A Hansen of Soda Springs former Paris residents has been nominated by Senator Frank Church Idaho to take final entrance examinations for the U S Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs The nominations were based on competitive Civil Service exam results conducted at Church's request He is an honor graduate of Fielding High School 1962 and currently attends BYU in the Honors Program on a Hinkley Ranberry scholarship

Doris Booth Named Homemaker of Tomorrow in State Contest

Doris Booth of St Charles won from Fielding in the 1963 Betty Crocker Search for the American Homemaker of Tomorrow. She ranked first in the school test and her entry advances toward state honors with a $1500 General Mills scholarship and a $500 second prize. her school receives Britannica sets.

Fielding PTA to Sponsor Valentine Carnival at High School

Fielding PTA will sponsor a Valentine carnival Thursday evening February 14 at 7 30 in the Fielding High School gymnasium. Public invited to attend to raise funds for a set of career books for the Fielding library. A King and Queen of Hearts will be chosen from attendees. Fielding Spartans Rally To Stay Third In League Play

Fielding high school Spartans won two games last week to sit third in the standings. They beat Westside 54 39 on Saturday and defeated Soda Springs 54 44 on Wednesday. Jim Mattson led scoring with 26 points in the Westside win while B Peterson topped Soda Springs with 23 points. The Jayvees beat Westside 23 28 and Soda Springs 38 35. Keith Ward Named to Membership Hereford Association

Keith Ward named to membership in the American Hereford Association the largest purebred registry with headquarters in Kansas City Missouri. The association added 123 junior Hereford breeders to its official roster during November and December while maintaining active accounts for more than 80 000 breeders as registered Herefords nationwide.

Snow and rain cause record flooding in southeast Idaho

Snow and a warming trend hit the southeast Idaho area last weekend with the highest water levels in over seventy years. Paris saw 12 to 14 inches of snow before turning to rain, flooding roads between Paris and Ovid and washing out a culvert. Bancroft suffered heavy damage as residents prepared for federal disaster aid, Bear Lake rose toward a road, and warm sun followed into the week.

First Ward Girls Daddy-Daughter Event Held

In Paris the First Ward Gaynate Firelight and Merrihand Girls hosted a daddy daughter date last week. Mrs Naomi Kennington led with assistants Mrs Almira Hawkes and Mrs Jane Matthews. Twenty one attended the event with fathers. A song by Louell Tippetts honored the fathers. Games were played and supper of chill and pie a la mode was served.

Funeral Obituary for Mrs Sarah Thornock in Paris Ward

Funeral services were held for Mrs Sarah Elizabeth Quinton Thornock at the Paris ward chapel. The 62 year old Paris resident died of a heart attack at her home, leaving seven children, twenty four grandchildren, and four sisters. Burial followed in Bloomington cemetery with a Relief Society luncheon after.

Fishing season opens on June 1 this year

Idaho switches to a new policy making trout season begin on the nearest Saturday to June 1. This year the opener falls on June 1 and runs through October 31. The commission chair Tom Felton of Moscow notes the update and urges checking local license distributors for area specifics.

Brigham Irwin Home Partially Destroyed by Fire

On Wednesday morning a fire partially destroyed the Brigham Irwin home in St Charles. Investigators suspect wiring defect as the cause though proof was not yet obtained. Much of the furnishings were removed from the house.

Jaren S Pugmire Called to Serve LDS Mission

Jaren S Pugmire son of Mr and Mrs V LaMont Pugmire of St Charles has been called to serve an LDS mission in the North East British mission field. Vestimonial will be February 10 at 2 pm at the St Charles ward chapel. Jaren will enter the Mission home in Salt Lake City on February 18.

Paris Man Weds Fish Haven Girl at Logan Temple

Linda Rae Shirley and Thomas A. Rogers were married in a Logan Temple ceremony on January 10. The couple, with families of Paris and Fish Haven, celebrated with a breakfast in Logan and a reception in Fish Haven. The groom served a mission in the west-central states and the bride graduated from the Southern Idaho School of Hair Styling. They currently reside in Paris.
