Nineteen Bear Lake Men Called for Pre Induction Exams

Nineteen men from Bear Lake county are summoned for the 14th pre induction physical examination on February 7 at Fort Douglas. Those reporting include Lloyd Dunn and several others from Montpelier and nearby towns, with listed last names and home towns.

Committee to Investigate School Health Program

Based on PTA president Lucille Crawford, a committee including Taft Budge Palmer Tueller and L L Deardorff will study needed health programs in the school. The Anti Tuberculosis association of the state will fund part of the program. Local findings will be sent to the state for possible approval and action.

Emerson Operetta Promises Royal Evening at 730

The Emerson School offers an operetta with no admission, set in the 2nd Ward chapel. A matinee is scheduled for Thursday Feb 1 at 2 pm in the same chapel, inviting the public to relive adventures of Tom Sawyer with a selected cast.

The Trekker and Blazer groups in Paris 2nd Ward Primary under Mrs Clear Price enjoyed a half hour with Marine Corporal Joe Barfuss home on furlough. Students Arlo Price Ray Crawford Shayne Heap Harold Vallentine Scott Law and Gary Price heard his advice and stories.

Relief Societies Host Tuesday Lessons and Social

In the 2nd Ward chapel a Tuesday program for Relief Societies featured a talk on the Sacredness of the Human Body by Mrs. Gwendon Crawford and musical numbers by Psyche Spencer Silas Grimmett and Veda Shepherd. Amy Althay spoke on Mother’s Responsibility in Non-use of Liquor and Tobacco. The trio sang Believe Me If All Those Endearing Young Charms. A social with light refreshments followed under the joint presidency.

Local and Personal Notes of Athays and Community

Mr and Mrs Dallas G Athay hosted a chicken dinner Thursday honoring Cp Walter Bolton. Guests included Cp Bolton and family. Mrs A W Sheherd entertained her bridge club Friday with high score won by Mrs Innes. Saturday morning Mrs Jay Hann hosted her Primary class with several children and refreshments. Sunday evening a religious discussion was led by Cpt Clarence Rich at his home with many attendees. Wayne Haddock left for Shoemaker California for future duty. Morgan Rich celebrated his 77th birthday in Salt Lake City with relatives. Cpt Joe Barfuss spoke in the 2nd Ward Sacrament service about war and faith. Bruce Stucki and Dale Richards performed a trumpet duet of Moonlight Sonata.

Effort to Eliminate Radio Static in Paris

Mayor Van Ness Vallentine announced a meeting with Utah Power & Light and a Preston representative to discuss reducing radio static in Paris. City officials expect cooperation to improve reception, noting issues may arise from faulty radios or poor instruments despite good condition.

Paris Lions Club Install Six New Members

Six new members were inducted into the Paris Lions Club at a Tuesday evening dinner at Hotel Paris. The event drew 31 attendees for the ceremony and entertainment including songs led by Lion William Jensen and speeches by L. L. Deardorff and A. W. Shepherd. Improvements Noted in State Water Supplies

Paper Salvage Drive Still Short of Quota

County salvage chairman Jay B. Hann says the area is 8 or 10 tons short of the 30 ton waste paper quota and shipments are held until reached. Residents are urged to bundle waste paper now and notify Mr Hann or a Boy Scout who will arrange collection.

New Clerk Takes Over At Selective Service Office

Mrs Thelma B Bunderson of St Charles is appointed clerk of the local Selective Service office in Paris. She succeeds Emma Bowen who has held the role for a year and is departing for Salt Lake City. Office hours run 9 am to 5 pm with no noon closure.

Dean Ward to Star in A C Opera at Utah State

Dean Ward of Bloomington will play the leading male role in Balfe's The Bohemian Girl at Utah State Agricultural College on February 8, 9, and 10. Ward, a senior in the School of Agriculture, is joined by Lee Nielsen of Hyrum and Willard Kunzler of Willard in separate Thaddeus roles as the gypsy plot unfolds with a 45 piece student orchestra and faculty direction from W H Manning and N W Christiansen.

Federal Tax Collector to Visit Paris for March Filing

A Deputy Collector of Internal Revenue will be in Paris at the courthouse for three days February 22 23 and 24 to aid taxpayers required to file federal income tax before March 15 1945. The collector will also be at the Burgoyne Hotel in Montpelier from February 13 to 21.

Daughters of Utah Pioneers Hear Convention Report
