Idaho Law Enforcement Commissioner Warrior Mills grants a grace extension to Jan 16 1969 for purchasing and affixing 1969 license plate validation tags. State law requires year end license purchase but allows delay for good cause. Owners must present current registration when applying for licenses or validation stickers.
Waldo Anderson says 67 new jackets ordered November 25 for Bear Lake High School band. Dinner jackets are royal blue with black trim and a gold diamond emblem. Principal Harold Phillips notes a 3000 dollar bond funds part of the cost with 1300 still needed from the music department. Old uniforms were 30 years old and some believed to be reused Fielding units from Marsh Valley.
Richard L. Cade head of Idaho Liquor Law Enforcement Division announced no extension of closing hours on New Year’s Eve December 31. He said liquor beer sales and consumption must end at 1 am and investigators will enforce the rule statewide.
John K. Mattson reported a one car crash near Ovid while heading toward Paris from Montpelier. His father's car suffered 682 dollars in damage after hitting a road sign and fence. In St Charles Thomas Findlay skidded on snow and crashed into the Big M Malt Shop, causing 500 dollars in auto damage. the shop sustained rear-wall damage but no injuries. Findlay was cited for failing to observe the basic rule.
The Bear Lake County schools end holidays January 2 and kindergarten begins the same day with 21 enrolled from Liberty to Fishraven and possibly two from Dingle. The class meets at 11 40 a m at Peggy Arnell's home in Paris and dismisses at 1 45 p m with bus return for out of town children. Mrs Glenda Keetch of Dingle will teach. students should bring a box of eight crayons and a Christmas toy. The cost is 10 per month per child paid in advance to the Emerson PTA.
Waldo Anderson announces return of the High School Program Bureau to Bear Lake. The BJL HS music department forms multiple ensembles including trios quartets and a brass sextette from the Bear Lake band. Groups may perform in the Christmas Variety Show December 21 and ensemble training for the April Music Festival is planned.
Bear Lake County Idaho bids will be opened at 2 00 p m January 14 in the Idaho Department of Highways Boise office for a road mix pavement and seal coat job on about 7 9 miles of U S Highway 89 from Ovid to Montpelier The project is under the supervision of District Engineer Orion L Grunerud of Pocatello and should be completed within 70 working days after start order is given.
Funeral services were held Monday at 1 00 p m in the Montpelier First LDS Ward Chapel for Ella Stephens Nate 88 who died Friday December 20 in a Nampa home She was born August 28 1880 in Bennington a daughter of Charles and Eleanor Owens Stephens She is survived by two sons Charles P Boise and LeRoy Portland Ore two daughters Phyllis Boise and Ellen Bischoff Wardboro 12 grandchildren 28 great grandchildren and four siblings Interment followed at Montpelier City Cemetery.
