Five Bear Lake youths inducted into armed forces at Ft Douglas

Five Bear Lake county young men were inducted into the armed forces at Ft Douglas on November 28. Fay 8 Derricott of Georgetown Robert C. Parker of Bloomington Lyman M. Kunz of Bern Kay James Allred of Paris Alonzo G. Irving of Montpelier Preinduction calls on December 18 were answered by Sterling P. Ail of St Chanel and Darwin H. Vallentine of Lanark Induction for December 26 was cancelled until January.

Lt. George Patterson Discharged From Army

First Lt. George Patterson of Idaho has been processed at the War Department Personnel Center Fort Douglas Utah and is now on terminal leave. Mrs. Kay Rich visited Liberty home of her parents Edgar Poulsen from Wednesday to Friday. A chicken supper was hosted by Mr and Mrs Clarence Heaps with guests Mr and Mrs Chales Wyler and family and Mr and Mrs Van Nelson.

Income Tax Collector to Visit County in January

Deputy Collector Spencer Condie of Internal Revenue will be in Paris January 8 at the courthouse to assist farmers filing final returns by January 15. He will also be at the Burgoyne Hotel in Montpelier January 9 10 and 11.

Pfc Ira J Payne Receives Army Discharge at Drew Field

Pfc Ira J Payne completed 47 months of service with the Army Air Forces at Drew Field Tampa Florida on December 4. The World champion rainbow trout title was briefly held by a 32 pounder from Pend d'Oreille Lake in Idaho after 31 pound Dreisbach catch at Sandpoint. Linford son dies in Pacific war action

Mrs Alicia Linford received word that her son, Bet O Neil Linford, an engineer and crew member of a B 24, was killed in action over enemy territory in the Pacific. He had been missing since August 24, 1943. Memorial services are pending for two brothers still abroad with the Navy.

PTA Meeting Features Hobby Night Program

The monthly PTA met on the previous Wednesday evening in Emerson Gym. The program included a talk on a hobby by Mr. Perkins of Fish-Havers, six songs by Morinda Wylex, and Amos Hulme discussing the Marking System. Ice cream and cake followed, and all parents and teachers are urged to attend the second Wednesday meetings.
