Mr and Mrs Ray C Rich will observe their 80th wedding anniversary with an open house at their Meridian Idaho home on September 4 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM Friends and relatives are invited to call They plan to visit the Logan Temple on September 20 to mark the date of their marriage
Citizens of Paris Idaho who were not qualified voters in the last city election must register for the bond election set for September 20 1961. To register call Fred J Prica city clerk at his Stars Building and be tax payers to qualify.
Funeral services for Ellis James Burnett were conducted Friday August 28 at Garden City L D Ward Chapel following his death in Logan on Wednesday night August 23. The service included prayers, musical numbers by Garden City Ward Singing Mothers and other performances, life sketch, remarks by Bishop Mitchell Sims, and grave dedication. Pallbearers included sons and sons in law. Burial followed in Ogden.
Realden ta of the Paris area will receive improved Social Security service starting September. The agent will be in Montpelier twice monthly on the first and third Wednesdays, using City Hall Auditorium for interviews and benefit information.
Utah Power and Light petitions the Idaho Public Utilities Commission to adjust electric rates for Gem State farmers to cover pre and post season irrigation pumping. The proposal could reduce bills by about $48,000 based on 1960 usage, affecting some 1,000 irrigation pumps between Sept 15 and May 25 with charges prorated by kWh.

Oil work on Paris side streets begins Thursday morning if rain does not fall overnight. Drivers are urged to keep to the far side and avoid the newly oiled area to allow proper drying. Center street past the post office and courthouse will be curbed for oiling and the public asked to stay off during drying.
Jay Lowe and Edward Barrett of Pocatello head the efforts for the Tenday Council Operating Fund Campaign to fund the 1962 council operations. A steak fry and organizational meeting in Lava Hot Springs set the plan with training and district meetings scheduled from September 21 to October 18 and a campaign kickoff in late October.
Mrs DeLoris Keetch cared for her mother in Salt Lake City while relatives were away. Leo Negus found employment in Logan starting Monday. Clarence Atkins family moved from Logan to Rupert for a teaching post. William Wilhelmson and family visited, and Paul Stock and Lloyd Sprouse joined their families for the weekend. The Lihoma Girls presented a Holiday program under Ida Hemert and Gail Rich with remarks by Gladys Cleveland Ada Pugmire and Mrs Pulley.
Idaho heavy truck operators face a tax deadline of August 31 for highway use taxes due on trucks operated in July. If more trucks start use in following months, additional returns are required. Tax rate increased and installments are available with information and forms at Internal Revenue offices.
All students register at 12:00 a.m. September 5 1961. Registration fees total 20.50 dollars including book rentals 8.00 and Student Body Fee 12.50. A full staff is hired except music vacancy. hoping for continued community support for the schools.
The 10th annual FFA Fat Sale drew record attendance on Friday night. Grand Champion Fat Steer went to Gay Rigby of Rupert, selling for 43 cents a pound to Walton Feed of Montpelier. Grand Champion Lamb to Craig Palmer of Paris, selling for 30 cents a pound to Thornock Brothers of Randolph. Reserve champions sold to Safeway Store and B. & K. Jewelers. Thirty-one calves and 40 lambs sold for 8300 dollars with average prices 26.40 and 20.40 per hundred respectively. Several buyers donated lambs back for resale to fund sale expenses.
Larry Kelsey son of Mr and Mrs Ben Kelsey of Paris Utah married Ann Frankhouser daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Frankhouser of Logan Utah in Elko Nevada on Wednesday August 23. Jack Frankhouser of Logan brother to the bride attended.
Mr and Mrs Taft P Budge report the birth of a granddaughter at 5 30 AM. The infant weighs seven pounds twelve ounces. Parents are Mr and Mrs Kent A Hall of Santaquin Utah formerly Zone Budge.
Buss Athay with his wife and the Shepherds left Paris Tuesday for Elko Nevada where Russ will race his horse. The barber shop will be open Saturday with a good substitute barber on hand.
Larry Ben Kelsey of Paris and Larry Gene Wells of Montpelier left Paris at 6 15 a m Tuesday to be inducted into the Armed Forces in Biose Idaho after traveling via Bear Lake Stages.
The 1961 Bear Lake County Fair at Montpelier featured livestock judging, a Friday downtown parade with floats and mounted entries, and a rodeo with racing. Rusdell Athay’s horse from Paris won two racing days and Leona’s Craft Shop float won parade best. Alf Rogers with an Appaloosa topped parade mounts, and the Paris marching team impressed audiences.
Fielding High School issued equipment to 36 players on August 19. Eleven lettermen return from last season as practice began August 21. The jamboree is September 1 at Bancroft with North Gem Grace and Soda Springs. Schedule lists nine games through November 3 with coach Wallace James and assistant Dick Hobbs.
Families of Moroni and Luetta Rich Pugmire gathered at a St. Charles Canyon picnic on August 19 to honor the mother’s 80th birth anniversary. Attendees included Armi Pugmire of St. Charles, Wayn Pugmire of Salt Lake City, Dr. Charles Petty of Arcadia California, McKay Loveland of Salt Lake City, Douglas Perkins of Montpelier, and Doneal Hymas of Montpelier. The Petty family visited Bear Lake valley, then Salt Lake City and Ogden before returning to California.
The Rich County Cowbells announce their annual Lake Shore party at Wendyl Johnson Park on Bear Lake August 31 at 7 30 P M. The barbecue supper costs one dollar per couple. Cattlemen and spouses are invited and asked to notify by Wednesday evening and bring own dishes.
Mr and Mrs Arlin Pugmire spend a week touring Yellow stone Park Montana and South Dakota visiting the Black Hills and Mt Rushmore. Accompanying them are Mr and Mrs Roy A Welker and Mr and Mrs Rodney Moyle of Boise.
