USS Missouri to Scene of Jap Surrender in Tokyo Bay

The 45 000 ton battleship USS Missouri will host the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay on August 31 1945. Named for Missouri's home state and praised by MacArthur, the ship's launch was January 29 1944 with keel laid January 6 1941 at New York Navy Yard.

Bloomington Boy Receives Discharge After Five Years

Pfc. Orvis H. Thompson, son of Mr and Mrs Hyrum Thompson of Bloomington, home last Friday after five years in the U S Army. He left Pocatello September 16 1940 with Co C 126th Engr Idaho National Guard, trained at Ft Lewis, served in Australia New Guinea Biak Island and the Philippines, returned from the Philippines arriving Seattle August 14 and then went to Fort Lewis for discharge.

Samuel Payne Reunion At Fish Haven Resort

The sixth annual Payne reunion on August 19 at Fish Haven resort drew members from northern Idaho and southern Utah. Fifty three members attended a 2 o clock dinner before social time. old officers retired and a new slate installed for the year. The family supplied 18 men to U S armed services.

Tires Removed From Ration List End Aug 20

The local war price and rationing board announces that all farm implement and industrial type tires are removed from rationing effective August 20. Truck and passenger car tires remain rationed as production has not yet switched to meet high demand. Motorists are urged to continue recapping until a larger supply arrives later this year.

Mrs Berglund Visits Parents in Dingle Then Returns to Rollins Field

Mrs Milton Berglund formerly Anne Crawford spends a week with her parents Mr and Mrs Charles B R Crawford in Dingle Utah. Berglund returned August 25 to Rollins Field Georgia as a member of the 15th Air Force. He earned ten battle stars and several citations from service in Africa Italy and other theaters. He attended Weber College Ogden Utah for two years before enlisting.
