Lightning Sparks Small Fires in Cache National Forest
Forest Ranger Bob Allison reported two small fires started by lightning in Cache National Forest over the past week. One near Swan Flat Summit above Garden City burned about 80 square feet before being extinguished, aided by John Negus and his son. Another in North Canyon near Sharon Quick helped stop spread, with minor damage. A third fire began Monday afternoon on the ridge between Paris and Sleight canyons.

Bear Lake County Producers Receive Wool and Lamb Payments
County producers have received 4263.08 dollars in lamb payments through July 31 under the wool Incentive Program for 1955. Payments were based on 592874 pounds of lambs and yearlings sold in 1955 56 marketing year at 77 cents per hundredweight. Shorn wool incentives totaled 43802.78 dollars on 229682 pounds through July 31. Total deductions amount to 2593.14 dollars to fund market expansion programs by the American Sheep Producers Council.

Fine Arts Club Meeting Highlights Japan Journey and Guests
Members of the Fine Arts Club met August 20 at Mrs Grant Bateman’s Bloomington home for Miss Jean Pugmire’s talk on her year in Japan as a teacher in the US Government Personnel School. The presentation featured slides, dolls, costumes, trinkets, and Japanese music, with a large attendance including Mrs Hadcock and many others. Jackie Bateman’s birthday party followed with games and refreshments. Weekend visitors included the Hemmert and Thompson families, and a baby born to Mr and Mrs Stitzer in Carlsbad, New Mexico as John David welcomed two sisters. The Stitzer family had just returned from Paris, and plans for a motor trip to visit the new temple in Los Angeles were noted amid the group.

Althea Linford Pickering, 22 months to 14 years survived by husband Sheldon and five children, died after a gall bladder operation in Salt Lake City. Born October 10, 1922 in Pan, Utah to Frank D and Lavina Keetch Linford. Funeral services held Wednesday in the Centerville LDS Ward Chapel.

Elmo John Beyeler aged 41 of Cokeville Wyoming died Friday evening in an Ogden hospital from a heart attack. He was born December 6 1914 in Wardboro to Frederick and Lena Beyeler. He married Melba Anderson November 13 1933. Survived by his widow a son Elmo BD Beyeler and daughters La Rue LalRee and Connie Beyeler of Cokeville, his parents of Menan three brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Cokeville ward chapel.
