Western States Phosphate Group Meetings Announced
A national conference on western phosphate resources will be held in Pocatello Idaho on August 31 and Logan Utah on September 1 with attendees from Utah State Agricultural College and nine-tenths of US phosphate deposits located in Idaho Utah Wyoming and Montana. Officials from Washington and leading TVA figures will participate in discussions on rock phosphate processing and soil fertility impacts.

Bear Lake County Fair Opens in Montpelier
The Bear Lake County Fair in Montpelier runs August 24 to 26 with a two day race meet a picadilly circus and carnival. Exhibitors total about 100 with 446 items earning cash or ribbons and 2300 dollars in awards. A mammoth parade begins at 12:00 PM on August 24 followed by a free street dance.

The Idaho State Liquor Dispensary reports net profits of 2 014 821 03 since inception with Bear Lake County receiving 1 219 647 for Q2 1939 and 1 527 43 for Q1 1939, totaling 2 747 or for the first half of 1939 23 124 53. Towns Mintpelier Paris Bloom Anglion Georgetown receive quarterly shares. Idaho’s second quarter distributions total 68 950 84 to counties with the general fund 34 475 42 and public school income fund 34 475 42. Bear Lake county’s overall receipts include county disbursements and funds to the general and school programs. The dispensary holds cash, stocks, and assets.

Man Charged in Deer Killing Out of Season
Stanford Caldwell of Sharon pleaded guilty to killing a deer out of season at a hearing before County Judge Don C Haddock on Monday. Sheriff Asa Athay reported Caldwell claimed he shot a deer rather than a calf, with only a paunch as evidence. Judge Haddock deferred sentence to Friday August 11 pending further investigation. Ernest Nelson of TAMB Chalmers Manufacturing was in Paris Monday on business.

Local boys enrolled in D C C camps in Idaho
Three Bear Lake county youths Warren Jensen Fay Loveland and Evan Shirley were enrolled for CCC work in July and assigned to camps in Idaho. In July 370 youths statewide joined the program and more enrollments are planned for October with county supervisor guidance.

Two men tried for violation of state game laws
Rodney Ream and Horsley Spencer of Dingle faced Judge Don C. Haddock on Tuesday for killing a sage chicken in violation of state game laws. Spencer pled guilty and paid 25 dollars plus costs. Ream had charges dropped.

Funeral Services for Sarah Jane Grimmett Sparks Held in Dingle
Funeral services led by Bishop Samuel Humphreys were held August 3 in the Dingle ward chapel for Sarah Jane Grimmett Sparks. The service featured a quartet, invocations, speakers including Hyrum Oakey and O H Grimmett, vocal solos by Mrs Alfred Oakey and M Williams, and closed with Sometime We'll Understand. Interment followed in the family plot at Dingle with grave dedication by Elder Al Simmons.
