Youths Barely Escape Death in Auto Accident

In Garden City Utah two Montpelier youths Edward Sutter and Alfred Parker escaped serious harm after their car swerved to avoid oncoming traffic and crashed in a ditch. Sutter suffered a fractured skull and internal injuries while Parker endured skull fracture a broken arm pelvic fractures and other internal injuries. Both were rushed to Bear Lake hospital in Montpelier.

License Plate Sales Mixed as August Totals Rise

County Assessor James Transtrum reports license plate sales ahead of last year with most types sold, but total revenue lower at 11,323 versus 24,002.20 in 1938. As of August 1, 1,403 passenger plates sold, compared to 12,847 in 1938. Transtrum asks locating owners to return stray plates to the assessor’s office for rightful ownership.

Ed Bissigger Dies Sunday in Montpelier

Edward H. Bissigger, 49, of Montpelier, after a year long illness from a stomach ailment, died Sunday July 31. Survived by widow Lottie, daughter Jeanne of Holbrook, and parents Adolph and Mrs Bissigger. Funeral held Wednesday at First Ward Chapel in Montpelier.

Dingle Woman Called By Death

Funeral services held in Dingle for Sarah Jane Sparks who died at her daughter’s home in Cokeville. Born May 23 1856 in Utah, she was the last surviving Grimmett child and widow of Fred Sparks. Surviving children include Bertram Dayton George Alice Nate Charles Nelson Alpert Lewtin and others. interment in local cemetery.

Homecoming Planned for Fielding Alumni by Bear Lake Stake

On September 2 the Bear Lake Stake M I A sponsors a Homecoming for Fielding Academy and Fielding High School alumni. Class reunions and renewing friendships fill the day, ending with a sunset pageant on the academy ruins. A alumni organization will be formed and a grand feast closes the celebration.

White and Yellow Lines Mark Highway Dangers

Ida ho highways will replace double yellow markings with white and yellow lines to indicate danger on hills and curves. Director H R Flint says the white line beside the yellow center stripe warns drivers not to cross into opposite lanes. The change starts on main roads and will extend statewide for clearer danger signaling. Mr and Mrs Chase Pond are visiting Ketchum Jidzho for a teachers conference.

Local cooperation and farmer input have improved planting and cultivation. Peas are heavy and nearing harvest with potential profits from several hundred acres.

General Rains End Six-Week Drought in Bear Lake Valley

General rains broke a six week drought in Bear Lake valley after a string of dry weeks. The heaviest rainfall fell Sunday afternoon through Monday morning, aiding grain and hay crops that suffered from the dry spell. Light showers occurred Monday with partial clearing by Tuesday.

Tueller Family Hold Reunion

The seventh annual Tueller descendants reunion gathered about 224 members from five western states at Fish Haven Resort over three days. Activities included games, swimming, a bonfire program, family sheets exhibit, and a Sunday program with a loving cup awarded to the Gottlebb Tueller family of Smithfield. Ivor Price Sails For Home From New Zealand Mission
