United States Senator D Worth Clark reported that President Roosevelt approved a WPA project to upgrade the Paris Fair Grounds and park at a cost of 7228 dollars. Funds will repair buildings plant trees install driveways landscape and set up water facilities for irrigation.
Funeral services for Mrs. Sid ney Thorneck were held Wednesday at Blooming ton ward chapel with Bishop J. P. Patterson in charge. A large crowd attended as pallbearers, including sons Allan LaMar Lorenzo and Willard, and Wilbur Pope and Calvin Jones of Randolph, were named. Out of town attendees listed from Randolph and nearby towns.
Idaho treasurer Mrs Myrtle Feniking reported a March 31 cash balance of 5 6 million with receipts including income taxes to 2 3 million. Unemployment and relief funds grew to 2 35 million held in trust. Warrants paid totaled 1 96 million including 454 thousand for unemployment. Bonded debt stood at 1 92 million with 273 thousand called for payment April 1. Retirement funds of about 75 thousand planned for July 1 1939. Mailed notes mention Emma Michel returning from Salt Lake City and Wilford Michel leaving for Cokeville for meat work for a month.
At a special City Council meeting Ezra T. Passey was named water works inspector, full time, under PMA rules. He previously handled city marshal and water system duties, and the council said his experience suits the role as the project nears thirty eight and one half percent completion. Lester Allred also kept marshal duties during the remainder of the water works project.
Mrs. Cora Poulsen Bolton 41 died Wednesday at 5 45 am at her home from pneumonia complications. Born September 27 1898 in Liberty Idaho she moved to Paris in 1912 and married Leslie Bolton in 1917. Survived by her parents ten children six sisters and two brothers. Funeral Friday at 2 pm in Paris Second Ward chapel with burial in city cemetery.

Senators Byrnes and George floated pension and income tax relief aimed at small businesses and higher earners. Byrnes proposed refunds of penalties on small firms failing to keep treasury records and possible exemptions for occasional labor. George urged reduced taxes on charge incomes, arguing levies up to 75 percent on incomes over five million hinder investment as Dean Howell and Grace residents visited Paris.
Boise State law officers vow immediate strict enforcement for failing to dim headlights and running stop signs. Director Harry Rayner cites recent fatal accidents near Idaho Falls and warns that violators will face full penalties under Idaho law. County treasurer Phylis Wood plans to attend a treasurers convention in Burns next week. Mrs Leora Gertch and family spent Easter Sunday with Mr and Mrs Clarence Passey in Lanark.
A kite flying contest will be held at the Academy Hill Saturday April 15 at 11 o clock. Events include highest scoring kite largest flying successfully smallest flying success full kite messenger contest and kite looping. Many contestants have entered including D Parker E Woallentine Joe Lewis J Browning and others. Each boy must build and operate his own kite to be eligible to win.
Fielding High School students compete in the fifth district state festival held in Paris on April 14 and 15. The event featured one act plays original oratory humorous and dramatic readings with Fielding leading in class A one act play and earning a district trophy for highest average score.
The Idaho fish and game commission refused to move the fishing season opening from Memorial Day May 30 despite an American Legion appeal. Chairman George Booth cited printed licenses and short notice for not ad justing now. The panel may reconsider next year and approved study of a cooperative wildlife investigative unit involving the commission the American Wildlife Institute the Bio Survey and the state university.
A coroner's jury found Russell Blackburn died from injuries inflicted by Wen el Seamons, a 21 year old Caribou county farmer. Seamons to be arraigned before Probate Judge D. K. McLean. Blackburn's body found near Seamons' car west of Soda Springs after witnesses left them in the vehicle. Witnesses and physicians offered conflicting details on the cause of death.
Afton Wyoming mayor E Milton Barrus and Star Valley chamber president Lester M Barrus will ask the state highway commission in Cheyenne for cooperation on a four mile oiling project in northern Star Valley. The plan would extend the existing oiling on U S Highway 89 nine miles north of Afton from the McCombs ranch to the south end of Thayne.
Market report dated Monday April 10 shows hog prices in Ogden at top 1.15 with medium to good 6.25 to 7.10 and sows 5.35 to 6. Denver cattle listings note top steers and good to very good heifers with 7.50 to 8.50 in Ogden and select fed lambs around 9.10 to 10.00 in Denver, while Los Angeles reports none sold. North Salt Lake and other western markets list lamb and hog ranges with varying bids.
The MS A. themed festival will feature a dance at the Paris Pavilion. Afton stake members perform a short floor show and M L A dances in a concise program. Music by the Yellow Jackets. All are invited to the spring event.
Dr and Mrs Wim Buxton and two children were visitors at the home of his brother L T Buxton over the weekend. They returned home Sunday evening with Mrs L S Buxton who had been visiting here for the past week.
