Annual Rainbow Rod and Gun Dance draws a large crowd at the Montpelier High School gym. Nearly 200 prizes totaling over $1,000 will be awarded. admission includes a chance at the prizes and Red Club membership. Drawings begin at 11 p.m.
OSAL calls for a 400 building bond program to fund a school project. The school board must submit the proposal to voters in the district. Administration is preparing publication details and aims to release them shortly. Estimated cost about 403,600.00. Detailed plans to be published next week.
Jean Taylor of Paris sustained serious injuries when her car rolled over on Highway 40 near Tooele County. She was admitted to Tooele Hospital with a fractured shoulder, ribs, facial cuts, possible back injury, and shock. Leon Taylor suffered facial injuries and possible back issues as investigators described the scene.

Peter Ward of Bloomington purchased the Anderson across from Ettbr and Howe and moved this week. The Anderson is now in Nampa. The home was formerly owned by Mrs. Rich.

Fenton Hess Linford 53 died March 28 at Star Valley Hospital Afton Utah after a sudden heart attack. Born March 5 1904 in Garden City Utah he moved to Star Valley as a child and later married Ruth Pratt in the Salt Lake Temple. Survived by his wife a son a daughter one brother and four grandsons.
North Rich PTA patrons from Laketown and Garden City meet March 20 to hear Earl F. Passey lead a panel. Panelists include Principal Clayton Robinson and several board and community members. The main issue is starting four summer kindergarten classes for 6 year olds, with concerns about transportation, scatter of families, finance, and time.

Bertha Peterson honored at family gathering with Jack Taylor family of Pocatello. Tor Jones of Montpelier. Ilene Ann and families of Paris. Oren Arlene and boys from here. Mrs Alvirus Arnel seeks medical aid. Ann Pugmire left for California with 24r and Mrs Charles Petty and family of Acadia California. The note closes with a brief local social update and names.
Seven candidates were nominated at Mass Meeting March 27 in St. Charles. Of these, three will be elected to the St. Charles Village Board on April 23. Nominated are Ralph Booth Candon Pugmire James Transtrum Delbert Hymas Elzo Bunderson Arlin Pugmire and Bill Pugmire. The first three named are present board members whose term has expired. Hold over members to the board are Howard Mecham and Eldon Mattson.
A meeting of 54 cattlemen from Rich and neighboring counties discussed marketing trends toward specialization. Morria Taylor outlined cooperative marketing options via an agency, and Rich county voters backed further study. Committee chair Frank Jackson will lead a survey to guide program development with Wesley T. Maughan announcing the plan.
A meeting of the Rich County Teachers Association led by President Howard Lamborn addressed wage-scale and leave-of-absence issues. A four member committee including Frank Miles Oral Maughan Kay Larson and Lamborn was chosen to meet the school board on April 4. Old Folks of Paris two wards will be honored at their annual party on Wednesday April 17. Guests aged 60 and over and their partners will be hosted by Mrs. Vinnie Price at the Novelty Theatre for a 4 p.m. showing, followed by dinner in the Paris 1st Ward hall and a concluding program and dance. The public is invited.
Fielding FFA earns Superior Chapter Award for the second straight year and Standard Chapter Award at district level among eight southern schools. Sixteen attendees at the Idaho State FFA convention in Burley witnessed ceremonies, contests, and the National Chapter Award recognition won last October in Kansas City.
DUP Camp Ellizabeth Passey held a March 2 gathering at Lucille L. Rogers home with Vice Captain Theressa Rich presiding. Attendance was 1 percent. The program included songs, prayers, county visitors, recitals of histories, readings by Edith Haddock, and piano solos by Karen Hymasz. Refreshments followed by hostesses Lucile Rogers and Amy Athay.

LaRene Thornock daughter of Mr and Mrs Donald Thornock of Bloomington and William Orin Coghiah of Afton Wyoming united in marriage March 28 at the bride’s parents home by Bishop T Jay Nelson. Afterward a buffet luncheon and a trousseau tea followed. The bride wore a navy blue suit and the couple will reside at Little America in Wyoming.

Rex Mattson announces the Bear Lake Rangers annual Queen contest on June 8 with prizes for all contestants and additional prizes for the queen and attendants. Eligible entrants are high school age girls living on the neat side of the valley. Eldon Lewis and Price Taylor lead local committees as 560 girls plan for the show.
Mrs. Janie N. Laker widow of William Laker died Sunday in Cove Cache Valley Utah. Born Bloomington April 26 1867 to Nela and Catherine Nelson she moved to Cove in 1918. Surviving three half sisters Inger Thornock Bloomington Mary Heath Freedom Wyo Sara Sizemore Boise. Funeral services were held Wednesday in the Cove Ward Chapel.
Conservation officer Lance Townley reports Bear Lake County sold about 3000 game licenses in 1956. Residents bought 1819 hunting licenses and 699 fishing licenses, plus 326 total resident licenses. Non residents bought 75 combo licenses, 24 bird licenses, 7 fishing licenses, 169 day licenses, totaling 17 dollars. Deer tags reached 1722 and elk tags 602 with 15 shipping permits.
Seventy volunteer cancer crusaders from the Idaho Division of the American Cancer Society attended the annual school in Montpelier on March 20. Ten year service awards were given to several members, along with multiple five year awards. Also reported are local social visits and a birth in Bear Lake with minor regional travel notes.

Farmers must sign Conservation Reserve contracts by April 15 in Bear Lake County. Contracts take effect when approved practices start, with grazing or cropping prohibited on designated reserves until then. Six or ten year contracts offer wider land designation options, while three year contracts apply to lands with approved cover.

Bear Lake County wool pool sold to Draper & Sona of Boston for 60.14 cents per pound. Arthur Callister and John C. Fallon of Salt Lake City represented the buyer. Tim Matthews chaired the pool. FF Wr Sorgatz noted the high price came from careful packing after shearing.
Farmers in Bear Lake county are invited to file MQ 31 to preserve their 1966 wheat allotment history. Affected years 1956 to 1989 include underplanting penalties and the rule that underplanting does not transfer unused acreage. Deadline May 1, 1957. forms mailed by ASC office.
