Three Bear Lake FFA Earns State Honor at Meridian Convention
Weldon Sleight of Bear Lake FFA was elected 1968-69 State Sentinel from 68 chapters and 32 state officer hopefuls at the Idaho State FFA Convention in Meridian March 28 to 30. He also served as district treasurer and co president of his chapter, advancing from Greenhand to Chapter Farmer with awards for top Greenhand and Chapter Farmer honors. He received a Union Pacific scholarship to Utah State University to study agriculture.

Where the Sales Tax Money Went
Excerpts from the Idaho State Trustees Newsletter of January 1968 explain that the sales tax was not earmarked for public schools. The general fund rose from 100 to 165 million, with education spending up from 65 to 112 million. Public schools received 59.7 million, an increase of 21.9 million, about one third of added general fund spending.

Snow pack in Bear Lake Valley below last year’s levels
April 1 snow course measurements by Forest Service and Soil Conservation Service show lower water content than 1967 for most sites in Bear Lake Valley. Montpelier Creek runs 82 percent of last year's water at high elevations. Emigration Canyon and Emigrant Summit near average. Montpelier Creek flow at Forest Boundary 21.3 cfs, projected to yield 42.5 acre-feet daily when reservoir fills this fall.

Car Crash Near Bear Lake Leaves Driver with Minor Injuries
A 4:45 PM Saturday crash on Anark Road in Virginia Thornock's area injured a passenger, who reportedly slid along the road. the driver remained in the car, suffered a sprained wrist, and was treated and released from Bear Lake Memorial Hospital. The vehicle was demolished and towed from the scene.
