Oswego County residents urged to maintain working smoke alarms
Oswego City Fire Department officials urged homeowners and renters to install and maintain smoke detectors. They cited that 34 structure fires in 2014 36 in 2015 and 24 from January to August 2016 occurred in Oswego year fires with 90 to 100 annual county blazes. They advised batteries should not be removed, alarms placed on every floor and near sleeping areas with three feet clearance around space heaters. NFPA data noted many deaths occur while asleep and Fire Prevention Week runs Oct 9–15.
