People's Produce Project earns best practice nod in Oswego County
The volunteer driven People's Produce Project started in 2015 by Oswego County Department of Social Services staff, now cited by state officials as a best practice. The garden in Mexico has grown from four beds to eight raised planters, producing 1000 to 1500 servings this season and helping hundreds of low income families. Volunteers and local businesses supported the effort with funding and discounts, while the team coordinates harvests and distribution and plans to share ideas at a roundtable with the New York Public Welfare Association.
