Oswego council boosts property maintenance funding
Oswego Common Council added 8000 to the 2016 property maintenance fund to cover mowing trash and debris clearance at code violator properties through year end after a surge in complaints and 1945 violations. City officials say funding will be charged back to delinquent property owners via tax bills and promise a bigger codes department with an extra officer in 2017.

County committee debates public safety budgets
Oswego County leaders spar over the Public Safety Committee budget process with Legislator Frank Castiglia proposing line by line cuts and additions totaling about 39000 across several departments. Critics urge advance review and caution against a 7 percent raise for Sheriff Reuel Todd, as committee chair Linda Lockwood and Majority Leader Shane Broadwell push for a fuller look at tobacco settlement funds and long term pay plans for elected officials.
