Knee replacement study weighs options for arthritis patients
Study from Denmark assigns 100 knee patients to 12 weeks of non surgical care or surgery then swaps treatments after 12 weeks. At one year, the surgical group shows greater pain and function gains though two thirds of non surgical patients improved without surgery. Complications were more common with surgery, including deep vein clots and infection. Experts say choices depend on goals and health, with options like weight loss therapy and physical therapy providing meaningful relief for many.
