Online learning system aids Fulton job seekers

Oswego County Workforce New York launches the Metrix E Learning System via the One Step Career Center. Unemployed and underemployed residents 18 plus gain free access to 1,200 topics plus optional Medcom or Skillsoft licenses with six month unlimited use. Proficiency tests measure skills and 10 to 12 courses completed on average, with some exceeding 100 courses in 180 days.

SUNY Oswego students gain NSF STEP summer research roles

Area residents and SUNY Oswego freshmen and sophomores joined faculty on NSF STEP funded projects this summer. Klayda Kelley worked with Vadoud Niri on dispersive liquid liquid extraction for VOCs in drinking water earning a stipend. Maxim Sokolovsky partnered with Paul Leary on software design with Max/MSP and also earned a stipend. The college is in year four of a five year 872500 NSF STEP grant to boost STEM retention through mentoring tutoring context instruction and summer math programs.
