The Labor Department reports both employment and unemployment fell in September due to seasonal factors. Employment dropped to 67,767,000 from 68,282,000 in August, a 515,000 drop, while unemployment fell to 3,388,000 from 3,788,000, a 400,000 decline. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate eased from 5.9% to 5.7%.

J Herbert Gilroy of Utica former State Supreme Court justice died at Syracuse Veterans hospital aged 65. He had served as Oneida County Democratic chairman and Utica city counsel and was counsel to the Utica Water Board. Appointed to the Supreme Court in January 1941 by Governor Lehman and defeated for a reelection the following November. He chaired Utica City politics for 13 years retiring in 1956.
Rochester New York UPI A registered Republican has been named chairman of the Monroe County Senior Citizens for Kennedy. Dr William A Sawyer 75 a retired physician was appointed Saturday by the county Democratic organization. Sawyer describes himself as lifelong Republican and says he favors Kennedy s support of social security financed medical care for the aged. He voted for Eisenhower in 1952 and for Adlai Stevenson in 1956.
The Sunday bomber struck again in midtown Manhattan near the New York Public Library at Fifth Avenue and 40th Street. A blast shattered windows and dirt showered streets but caused no injuries as about 1,000 people were inside. Police hunt two youths seen fleeing Bryant Park near the scene.
