Possible Fitz Patrick closure would devastate local governments
Entergy warns that a decision on refueling the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant could come around the end of October, with a confirmed shutdown likely in late 2016 or early 2017 if refueling does not occur. The plant employs 600 plus workers and contributes millions to taxes and charities, with a broader Oswego economy boosted by contractor hires during refueling. If closed, tax revenue would drop and taxable value would fall, though some site taxes could continue for a few years.
