Stadacona’s Oswego Harbor Challenge in 1958
The 582-foot Stadacona, a Canada Steamship Lines self unloaders, sailed into Oswego Harbor on August 13 1958 to load coal for Hamilton Ontario. mounting winds and tight dock space required a staged teamwork maneuver with a Coast Guard vessel and a tug to free the ship. This event marked the era of larger ships replacing canalers and the end of Oswego coal loading with the Seaway era.
