Oswego church honors 19th century brigadier general
Oswego honors Brig. Gen. Julius Hayden, Civil War and Mexican War veteran, whose marker now decorates the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection grounds in Oswego’s Historic District. Hayden, a NYC native, served from age 18, aided by Fort Ontario postings, and later held staff and command roles including Governor’s Island and a post in Alabama. Shedding details, Samantha Linn secured a veteran’s marker and notes Hayden and his wife are buried in the church gardens after contributions to Christ Church.
