Oswego County approves budget cuts to erase tax hike
The Finance and Personnel Committee approved about 500000 in cuts to the 2017 county budget, aiming to erase the earlier tax hike. Levy drops from 42979701 to 42514736, with property valuation rising roughly 500000, possibly lowering the tax rate to 7.69 per 1000. Foster care costs rise at least 2700000 to about 5 million due to a second family court judge. The committee endorsed the amended tentative budget, and lawmakers anticipate no override of the 2017 tax cap, subject to further changes before adoption. The plan uses 26 million in fund balance, matching 2016 totals.
