Banta wins Friends of the Library logo contest

Brennan Banta, a 2010 Oswego High School and 2014 Ithaca College graduate, won the Friends of the Library logo contest and donated the prize to the library. OSWEGO ARISE Ride for Ramps on June 4 features a 5K run/walk, motorcycle ride, barbecue, music by Vitamin X, and benefits Oswego County home accessibility efforts.

Rookie Candidates Shine In Oswego BOE Race

Oswego voters elected two first time candidates Aimee Callen and Jim Bell to the Oswego City School District board with 1,966 and 1,870 votes. veteran Fran Hoefer 1,190, current President Kathleen Allen 798, and Bill Myer 714. Callen and Bell led in all four districts on a platform promising fundamental policy change amid a district facing a $5.6 million budget gap and earlier cuts to staff and programs. Bell cited strong turnout and a call for change as signals from the community.

State Heroin and Opioid Task Force Public Input Meeting

New York's Heroin and Opioid Task Force held a public meeting at Syracuse University as part of a statewide tour. Gov. Cuomo announced the task force, with Lt. Gov. Hochul co chairing, to develop recommendations from health care, law enforcement and legislative experts. The panel heard public and expert input and vowed concrete proposals for the Legislature by June to curb the epidemic described as the leading cause of accidental death in the state.

Fitzgerald pleads not guilty to endangering OCSD student

Sean M. Fitzgerald, 31, of Baldwinsville, a Minetto Elementary School teacher placed on paid leave May 3 after being accused of throwing a second grader over a 3-foot counter and dragging the child into the principal's office, pleaded not guilty at Minetto Town Court. Police say the student was not injured, leading to a charge of endangering welfare of a child and a second-degree harassment count.

Oswego approves 160k plan for wastewater plant upgrade

Oswego Administrative Services Committee backs a 160000 asset management plan for Eastside Wastewater Treatment Plant. C2HM will deliver asset inventory, capital and long term financing steps within 90 days, with Camden Group coordinating plant management. The move aims to meet consent decree requirements and improve city environmental standing.
