Fulton City School District Budget Defers Instructors Amid Enrollment Drop
FCSD voters approve a 2017 2018 budget realigning priorities as enrollment falls and many retiring or resigning instructors are not replaced. Despite gains such as a 7 percent rise in graduation and more students reaching proficiency in math and English, officials say the plan closes gaps in graduation rates for economically disadvantaged students, adds a new tech position, a special education teacher, and an academic intervention services teacher at the Junior High. The budget uses 700000 in reserve funds and 475000 in designated balances with plans to balance future budgets. The tax cut stems from state tax cap requirements. a 70000 home valued at 70000 would save about 16.20.

Second round of DRI funding eyed for Fulton
State officials say regional councils will weigh criteria for DRI applications including capitalizing on prior investments, fostering future projects within one to two years, downtown livability, policy improvements, and an open community engagement process. Oswego Mayor Billy Barlow praises the process for uniting business and community leaders and notes that even without $10 million, towns gain usable plans for state grants. After 10 DRI communities are chosen, planners will form committees to develop strategic investment plans guiding economic, transportation, housing, and community projects aligned with downtown visions.
