Ex NY Assembly speaker asks to stay free pending appeal
Sheldon Silver, former New York Assembly speaker, seeks to remain free while appealing his 12 year sentence in a $5 million corruption case. Lawyers say a Supreme Court ruling on a law used to convict could reverse the conviction and request halting a $1.75 million fine and $5.3 million forfeiture. If denied, he faces prison starting July 1 and potential sale of jointly owned homes.
