Parish Woman Claire Sterio Memorial Service Details
Claire Martineau Sterio died after a long life in Parish and Syracuse. She is survived by eight children, eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, a sister and many relatives. She retired from Nationwide Insurance after 18 years and served twenty years as Parish town tax assessor. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Harter Funeral Home with a life celebration May 15 at Sharkey’s Bar and Grill. In lieu of flowers donations to Oswego County Humane Society.

A Oswego High School graduate and RN trained in Newark New Jersey she chose to raise three sons with strong values and a love of learning. She enjoyed travel with family and time with her great grandson. Surviving are her sons George Jr Douglas and Romey all of Oswego and several grandchildren and a great grandson. Funeral at St Pauls Church 10:30 Wednesday with burial at St Peters Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the American Heart Association or American Cancer Society. Dowdle Funeral Home in charge.

Tonawanda Coke Corp agreed to pay 12 million dollars to settle claims it polluted air and water with harmful chemicals at its coal to coke plant on the Niagara River. The deal requires 7.9 million in upgrades, 2.75 million in civil penalties, and 1.3 million for environmental projects including wetlands preservation. The total penalties in recent years exceed 42 million dollars.
