Government seeks dismissal of lawsuit over 2013 Renz case

The federal government moved to dismiss a 2014 filed suit seeking 30 million dollars in damages by a child's guardian on behalf of Lori Bresnahan and the child. The suit claims Syracuse federal probation officials failed to monitor Timothy Renz while on pretrial release, enabling the kidnapping, sexual assault, and murder outside the Great Northern Mall. It cites 46 tamper alerts from the GPS ankle bracelet, with only 10 reported and few acted upon, and argues officers could have arrested Renz without a warrant for release violations. The case ties to Renz’s 2013 murder conviction and 2014 life sentence.
