Stone Store of Oswego County A Heritage at Stake
The old Stone Store at West Seneca and Water Streets, erected in 1828 and listed on the National Register, faces possible demolition after decades of vacancy. once home to a ship chandlery and customs office, it shaped Oswego’s waterfront trade. now preservation efforts seek rehabilitation by city leaders to revive the landmark and restore tax revenue rather than destroy a key historical enterprise.

Oswego Port History Shows Shifting Great Lakes Trade
Maritime historian Richard Palmer highlights Oswego’s long maritime past and its struggles to grow as a Great Lakes port due to canal limits and competition from Buffalo. The piece recalls Welland Canal enlargements, grain trade shifts, fires, tariffs, and a 19th century debate over a Oswego to New York ship canal.
