Oswego Firefighter Nelson Retires After 20 Years of Service

Oswego Fire Department announces the retirement of Ronald J. Nelson after two decades of service. Hired March 3, 1996, he earned NYS Critical Care Technician in 1998, became EMS coordinator and later NYS Paramedic. He was 2002 Firefighter of the Year and plans to spend time with family and stay active.

Thibodeau seeks speedy appeal in 1995 kidnapping case

Gary Thibodeau's defense team has about 30 days to seek permission to appeal a judge's ruling upholding his 1995 kidnapping conviction in the Heidi Allen case. Prosecutors vow to block the appeal. Peebles says the team prepared for post verdict review and will press evidentiary issues and new suspects involvement.

Oswego Reports Heavy Snow and Cold in February

Oswego's February set records with nearly 40 inches of snow, 5% rain, and temperatures plunging to minus 15 on Valentine’s Day. Local observer Bill Gregway notes a mid February stretch of daily snow, several subzero days, and a winter peak of 69.9 inches for the season, about half the typical total.

Witness testifies Thibodeau not the Heidi Allen kidnapper

Oswego resident William Pierce, a new witness in the Heidi Allen case, insists Gary Thibodeau did not kidnap Allen and identifies James Steen as the abductor. Pierce, 80, says he regretted his earlier belief after confessing he once added a beard to Thibodeau's photo to fit the suspect.
