Food for Thought program supports local charities in Oswego

Oswego Industries-ARC collected food for Rotary's Food For Thought and split it between Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army. Bridges to Success students turned a sewing unit into a community project crafting about 20 cotton bags filled with goodies for children facing health issues, donated to Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse.

Pulaski Area Relay for Life set for Saturday

Ritchie pushes NYPA takeover of FitzPatrick plant

State Senator Patty Ritchie introduced a bill directing the New York Power Authority to acquire the James A. FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant through eminent domain to save 600 workers and keep the plant running. NYPA officials said they have no comment, and the CEO later said the authority is unlikely to own or operate a nuclear plant.

Comptroller outlines NY heroin and opioid crisis data

New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli released a report on prescription opioid abuse and heroin addiction. It cites CDC and SAMHSA data, noting Oswego County had 14 prescription opioid overdose deaths in 2014 and statewide opioid deaths reached 1,008 with 825 heroin deaths, up nearly a quarter from 2013.
