Oswego and nearby areas hosted the annual Museum Ship Radio Weekend with the WWII LT-5 barge at H. Lee White Maritime Museum serving as base. Operators from Oswego Fulton and beyond exchanged information with global radio enthusiasts, totaling over 800 contacts in under 24 hours. Oswego High School actors were honored at the first Syracuse High School Theatre Awards. Twenty four central New York schools competed. Senior Ryan Smith won Outstanding Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal of Lewis in Pippin.
AP reports Richard Matt and David Sweat, both convicted murderers, are still at large after a dramatic Clinton Correctional Facility escape in upstate New York. Authorities, including local and federal officers, search for Sweat who killed a Broome County sheriff's deputy and Matt liable for kidnapping and dismembering his former boss Steven Tarsia. The escape featured bed dummies and cut steel pipes, ending near a prison manhole.
