Rotary meeting welcomes Youth Works speaker
At a Fulton Sunrise Rotary gathering Linda Rossiter introduced Heather Tebidor from Youth Works Oswego County Workforce NY. Tebidor outlined how Youth Works assists ages 16 to 21 to prepare for and enter the workforce. The Sunrise Rotary meets at Mimi's at 7 a.m. Fridays. Oswego County Clerk Michael C. Backus thanked the public for patience during a period of limited DMV window service after a spike in auto sales around Memorial Day. Three offices temporarily limited service then resumed normal operations. The county reported 1,624 more transactions than the same three months in 2014 and praised DMV staff. The Oswego City Band marks its 80th year with Melodies and Movies at Breitbeck Park at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday featuring Cole Porter songs, Copland and Ticheli arrangements, movie scores, and a piece by Oswego native Bill Palange.

Injured veteran awarded new home in New Haven
Army Sgt. 1st Class Jeffrey Hackett received a mortgage free home in a Saturday ceremony, after years of effort by Home For Our Troops. The 1st Battalion 32nd Regiment 10th Mountain Division from Fort Drum joined Hackett, his wife and two daughters for the key presentation. General Richard Cody praised Hackett’s courage as the ceremony honored his 17 years of service and recovery from injuries in Kandahar.

Oswego County property tax auction recoups up to $1.43 million
Oswego County conducted its annual property tax auction on July 18, with 118 of 122 parcels sold. The event could net as much as $1,433,550, about $274,170 more than needed to break even after exemptions and owner buybacks, while 26 properties were exempted from auction totaling $553,287.
