The CNY Arts Center invites local artists to a Plein Air Paint Out during Fulton Festival of the Arts August 12 to 14. Artists paint Oswego County sites, donate works for a public auction on August 14 to fund arts programming, and receive a booklet map T shirt and more. Register online or in person, with a 5 to 7 p.m. August 13 preview.
Oswego City School District selects Pyramid Brokerage of DeWitt as authorized broker to handle the sale of the district educational center. The three story building, home to about 50 employees, has sat unsold for years while efforts to return it to the tax rolls continued. Superintendent Goeney praises Pyramid's professionalism and national track record.
Oswego County jurors convict Maurice M. Mahoney 52 of Oswego of first degree sexual abuse for sexual contact with a child in 2002 in Scriba. He faces two to seven years in prison with sentencing set for September 28 and a pre sentence report due September 14.
Fulton officials say state Route 3 work from Lakeview Ave near the War Memorial to Oneida Street will start in the last week of July or early August with scheduling conflicts delaying the kickoff. The $2.7 million project does not resurface the bridge but will extend to the Oswego River deck on both sides. Barrett Paving, the awarded contractor, is headquartered in New Jersey with Liverpool offices.
Volney and Fulton seek to fund a purchase of 130 privately owned acres along the Oswego River to keep the Great Bear Springs Recreation Area intact. The land now under a 10 year lease has trails open to the public and accounts for about one third of the current 476 acre system. Friends of Great Bear push for grants to buy and designate the parcel as public land.
