Saga of the Phantom Bark on Lake Ontario
Maritime historian Richard Palmer recalls the Alliance tragedy amid a Chicago link, a daughter and son aboard, a jealous suitor, and a fatal voyage near Port Dalhousie. The tale recounts boarding at Chicago, a struggle on deck, pursuit by Seminole, and the bark’s disappearance on November 11th, 22 years earlier, with the scene set near Thorold and Oswego before nightfall.
